Hello, I have a dilemma deciding between UCLA and UC Berkeley.

Which school has stronger psychology, law, pre med, and education programs?
(I am currently accepted to both as a Psychology major)

I'm really torn between the two because:

UCLA:
-beautiful campus
-good food
-love the weather and atmosphere
-closer to my mom's side of the family that I am really close to

UC Berkeley:
-academia
-prestige
-better chance of acceptance to grad schools

I sincerely appreciate your advice/information!

Academics are more or less the same. You learn the same material.

Prestige…in some departments yes, less in others.

No. Going to Cal will not increase or decrease your chances at grad schools. If you were going to get into Harvard for grad school at Cal, you most likely would have been able to do the same at UCLA (or any UC for that matter, or most state schools). HOWEVER, I’d imagine that there are more research opportunities for undergraduates at Cal as opposed to UCLA simply due to the DOE labs in the vicinity (UCLA has JPL too so…) and the fact that there are so many professors who need help with their projects. I’m sure UCLA has a lot of opportunities too, but Cal is known for its research =p

It seems like the factors you are looking for points you toward UCLA.

Cal is where pre-meds go to die. You might become very miserable if you come here to do pre-med :P
