Hello all,
As UC applications get closer, so has this issue of mine: UCLA has been my dream school for so long now and If i get accepted, i feel like i have to go. However, I have a whole bunch of friends at UCSD and I've visited many times. So every time I go, I always have a great time. It almost feels like a home to me. I only have one friend at UCLA and quite honestly, hes a jackass. haha

My major is molecular bio and ucsd is better for bio. I want to be able to say "I go to ucla." But I think another part of me wants to go to ucsd because I know for sure that I will like it there. HOWEVER I shouldnt base this off of friends. right? and maybe I'll even like it at UCLA.

Which would you go to? UCLA or UCSD?

You had to make an entire thread for this knowing very well everyone will respond UCLA? :P

haha yeah, i guess its a stupid thread. but UCSD is so freaken nice! The weather is beautiful, everyones chill, biking friendly, NO SMOG, better for bio, not so crowded, awesome sunsets!

go to SD for sure!

they’re both highly respected schools, and honestly, if it comes down to it, make a pros/cons sheet and (yeah i know it’s tedious) then go from there. It’s hard! But, many many peoplehave made the choice to go to ucsd over ucla, and the opposite is also true. So just know that in the grand scheme of things, it’s not such a big deal :)

If you want to go to UCSD, then you should go to UCSD. I assure you, a bio degree from SD will not hold you back. Seems like most people don’t really want to go there, and to those people I’d obviously say UCLA. But with an only minor prestige difference, you should go to UCSD.

You should go where you want, not where you think other people think you should go.

Apply to both, and maybe UCLA will reject you making the decision for you. If you get in to both schools, i’d choose UCLA. I love UCSD, but UCLA is a great school. It is known around the world. Tough choice, but I dont think you would regret going to UCLA.

I think its all about what you want. My friend was accepted to both Cal and UCLA, and also UCSB and SDSU. He loved UCLA, loved Cal, loved both UCSB and SDSU, but he picked SDSU because he loved the school, the atmosphere, and the people there. Don’t let title and prestige guide your choices my friend, find a school that you want to go to because its what you want!

thanks for the advice guys. I just dont know which one I really like better. The only reason I like ucsd MIGHT be because all the friends there that I stayed with. I’ve only been to ucla once during senior year and we just looked at buildings…haha

I’m in a remarkably similar situation. I love both UCSD and UCLA, and though I know I could get rejected and not have this option, assuming I get in to UCLA (I have TAG with UCSD) I would have the most difficult time deciding where to go.

My best friend goes to UCSD and loves it. Every day he tells me about how incredible the teachers are and how amazing the campus/gyms/beach are. However, I do have friends at UCLA as well, and they all say it’s great but sort of cramped, especially in their rooms. Basically UCLA is my dream school as well with excellent prestige, research, perfect for my major (Psychology), and has a good football team and weather which I like.

I know both campuses are top 10-15 in Psychology, I’ve seen UCSD as high as 10th and UCLA as high as 4th in the nation for Psych, but I was wondering if anyone attends/has attended either university if they could tell me about their experiences in their Psych classes. Upper division Psych classes would be the most relevant to me considering I’m transferring as a Junior next year, but any Psych class experience would be great i.e. class size, enjoyment, level of difficulty, overall experience.

Thanks and any info about either school would be greatly appreciated!
