UCLA WAITLIST CLASS OF 2020

Usually waitlisted applicants hear after May 1 when all the accepted applicants have SIR’d.

Waitlisted for Stats 4.41 Weighted GPA 2120 SAT. I also got waitlisted for UCSD…isn’t it weird that both UCLA and UCSD waitlisted me? I won’t opt in if I get into Berkeley, but I probably won’t get in considering.

Waitlisted from In-State

Probably going to opt-in

Major - Pre Business Economics

Next college choice - Definitely probably UC Irvine because major is strong there. (Business administration)

Ugly test scores but lots of extra cirriculars such as clubs sports and LOTS of volunteer

waitlisted for ucla (in-state)
idk if ima opt in
heart set on Chapman
waitlisted for ucsd
got into davis, riverside and irvine

Do you guys think a lot of people will get off the waitlist this year since a lot of out of state students will probably not accept admission this year since UCLA raised the tuition for them?

I wouldn’t think so, because usually the amount of people accepted from the waitlisted stays pretty consistent for both out of state and instate. There’s always hope that this year is different, though!

That’s true, but i actually meant that people from out of state who were actually admitted. Like is there a chance that they won’t go even if they got accepted bc of the low financial aid. giving more of us wait listed applicants a chance [-O<

i would think so, since this is the first year they are not giving aid to OOS. it must bode well for those on the waiting list…fingers crossed. i guess we find out the numbers on the waitlist after may 1 or will they let us know after april 15 which is deadline to opt in or out of waitlist?

they said anywhere from after May 1 but no later than June 1

right, but when can we find out how many students are on the waitlist i wonder?

Possibly. It’s likely that the number of out of state students that actually go to UCLA might be a bit lower, but it’s made up for the fact that the UC schools accepted a whole lot more out of state students than they did in the past, so less people that were accepted might actually go, but because there are more people that are accepted in general, I don’t think the numbers will change too much.

Also, a lot of out of state students can usually afford to go to UC schools without financial aid, which is why UC schools are accepting more and more out of state students as part of their new budget plan. I live in Arizona and I go to a pretty good school in a rich area where a ton of people apply to UC schools, and I can tell you that most of the people I know will have no trouble paying tuition to places like UCLA. Of course, this isn’t necessarily true for everyone, and I can’t speak for all out of state students, and I can’t even speak for all Arizona students applying to UC schools, so I might be wrong, but from what I’ve seen personally, the number of people who actually decide to go has stayed pretty consistent throughout the years, mainly because the UC system purposefully tries to maintain consistency with their acceptances.

I think generally around 2900 students get on the waitlist for UCLA, but this number is from a couple of years ago. I don’t think it will change that significantly, though, so I’d expect around 3000 to be on the waitlist for this year.

Waitlisted
In State
Opted In

(Also waitlisted at UCSD which was surprising to me considering I exceed their averages by a lot)

Intended Major: Business Economics
Next choice: UCI, Cal Poly SLO, or Pepperdine
4.24 GPA
33 ACT
Captain of Varsity Tennis (varsity team all 4 years)
Vice President of California Scholarship Federation
Academic Decathlon Team, competed for 3 years
Member of my school’s Mathematics & Science Academy

I have a friend that got accepted with a 3.91 GPA, 25 ACT, and 1690 SAT with way less extra-curricular’s than me… Does the personal statement really make THAT much of a difference? I felt my personal statements were strong and had them reviewed by my counselors and three teachers.

I’m going to include my Fall Semester grades in my optional information section and a few other things that I’ve done since the application process.

Fall 2015 grades were:
AP English Literature and Composition: B+
AP US Government and Politics: A
Spanish IV: A
AP Environmental Science: A+
AP Calculus BC: A+
AP Art History: A+

Same schedule for Spring 2016 and currently have all A’s.

@stupefy13 yeah I got waitlisted at UCSD too and I was like 98% positive I would get accepted

@smashhighschool don’t worry. i’m a bit upset too considering someone from my school got accepted with a 1690 SAT score, 3.91 GPA, and 25 ACT score…

@nshepherd929 That’s really strange, since your stats are definitely above average for UCSD, and your EC’s seem pretty good too. I personally think that the personal statement distinguishes applicants a lot, so I think it really does have a significant impact, but it really depends on each college. Was there anything else that could have made the admissions office waitlist you for UCLA and UCSD?

Also, for UCSD, were both your main and alternate majors impacted? I think that has something to do with it as well, because I got into UCSD with a 32 ACT, 4.35 Weighted UC GPA, and an 800 on SAT Math II, but only for my alternate major, which isn’t impacted.

@missjantastic for the statement I would put in anything new you have accomplished since submitting your application. I wouldn’t write an entire essay or anything, but definitely show how you’ve grown in any way since your original submission

Waitlisted.
4.27 UC GPA
1590 SAT score
Lots of ECs
Great essays
In-state
Major: Biology
What are my chances of getting in off the waitlist?

@nshepherd929 Yeah exactly! I was so confused when I got rejected, I had been sure it was my match school. And then to get waitlisted by UCLA my dream school was just straight up confusing because I had accepted a rejection. Also on the subject of someone from your school getting in with a 1690, I can’t personally empathise but at my school only 4 kids got in and they all have 2100+ SAT and 33+ ACT scores. But a good friend of mine with great EC’s, 2250+ score and excellent grades was rejected something that really shocked me. This years UC decisions have just been straight up weird.

Waitlisted for nursing
OOS
UCLA’s Freshman direct nursing program will prob not have any opening for waitlisted…too awesome of a program to turn down.
