I was also wait listed. Pretty disappointed since around 6 of my friends got accepted (I can’t go to Bruin Day with them) and all of us have similar stats and whatnot. However, i’m happy for them and wish them the best!
On the other hand, does any one know how likely it is that people get off the wait list, how many people will get off this year, around what time we’ll be getting notified, etc…?
@imvegetarian2016 I believe in 2014 or 2013 (sorry can’t remember which exactly!) about 150 got off the wait list, as for how many will get off this year it’ll all depend on how many kids accept the offer, remember that even though the freshman class is about 6500-7000 around 13000 are offered admission. Based on available spots (if any) kids on the waitlist get in. They’ll inform us anytime after May 1st and before June 1st.
Most of the top kids from my school for in but I was waitlisted. But I was also the only person at my school who got in early for Berkeley so idk haha

Waiting for: a miracle
Being on the waitlist was definitely not what I was hoping for since this waiting process has already been really hard for me, but I guess it’s better than a flat out rejection. I think I’m more upset about being on UCSD’s waitlist cause I honestly thought I could get in there and it’d make me feel better about waiting for LA. Oh well. For all of you guys out there reading this, good work and hopefully everything works out for the best.
lol why is this thread so dead???
it feels like i’m the only one who’s panicking about being wait listed and potentially rejected :))
@AstraeaX nope. neither my major nor alternate major were impacted. I also had my counselors and many teachers review my personal statements and they all had positive comments on them.
@stupefy13 yeah this year is definitely weird. the majority of people that got in to UCLA from my school didn’t have amazing test scores or EC’s and had UC GPA’s below 4.0.
@isthyr yeah I’m really more upset about being wait listed at UCSD. good luck to you too.
@imvegetarian2016 No, I’m freaking out too haha. I was 75% sure that I was going to get in, and didn’t think or worry too much about UCLA. Ended up getting waitlisted so thay was a very unpleasant surprise lol.
@AstraeaX Yeah it was a very unpleasant surprise, especially when around 6 of my friends got in and all of us have similar test scores, ECs, grades, etc…
I wish you and everyone who has been wait listed the best of luck!
Do any of you know if they take people off the waitlist based on major or by general spots being open?? For example if for some reason only people who got in for Engineering chose to go to another school, they would only let in waitlisted Engineer majors? Or anyone who has a spot on the waitlist would have a chance?
So if you applied for a certain major would it be easier to get off the waitlist or does everyone have the same chance major-wise? I applied as Undeclared Letters and Science.
@imvegetarian2016 Thank you! And you too! Good luck to everyone!
@missjantastic I think it’s by major, since a lot of the engineering majors are impacted, so for example, if a spot opens up the in BME major, then they would accept someone from the waitlist who was a BME major to fill that open spot. I think it would be easier for Letters and Science, because more people are likely to go elsewhere for that because the College of Letters and Science is bigger than some of the other majors/colleges.
@missjantastic i just finished reading through the 2015 waitlist thread and it looks like they admit from the waitlist based on spots that are open by major…for example, engineering dept. told people who called that no one else would be admitted from waitlist at the point on so i’m assuming that it’s done by spots open in each major and not overall…
I heard that people started hearing if they got off the wait list late April, so we might not have to wait until May 1
Fingers crossed!
Oh, great! That makes waiting a lot easier, knowing that we might not have to wait a whole month and a half.
If we get accepted off the waitlist how does that work with housing? I read something online that said that since the housing application deadline is May 1st we will be entered into a lottery for housing but does that mean that we won’t get to have any dorm preferences or anything like that or how does that work?
i’m pretty sure if we get off the wait list, we’re guaranteed housing. I think it says that in the Wait list FAQs, so you may want to check there
I can’t wait to find out if all of us get off of the wait list or not!!
Same here!
