I am an out-of-state applicant from Indiana that applied to UCLA. I was wondering if any past or current applicants, current students, or anybody who has knowledge regarding acceptance criteria for UCLA could provide some insight on my chances of getting accepted. It’s been my dream school since the fourth grade, and I can’t wait for the March decisions to come out!
SAT: 1930
ACT: 29
GPA: 4.3 Weighted, 3.85 Unweighted
Extracurriculars: Student Council (Freshman and Sophomore Class President and current Student Council/Student Body President), DARE role model, Representative of the Students for my town’s Community Foundation, Varsity Football, National Honor Society.
Awards: AP Scholar, All-State Academics, Sophomore Prince, Homecoming King, Kiwanis Scholar, and a couple others.
I thought I wrote some solid essays, and I do come from an unordinary circumstance because I have a brother with autism.
All input is highly appreciated! Thank you! Go Bruins!
You have a shot, a bit of a reach but still feasible.
However, remember that the UC schools will cost you about $40,000 a year since they give no financial aid for out of state applicants!
Chance me

Thanks for the input!
I think it will be a high match! goodluck!! I am sure you’ll get in wherever tho
Thank you!
Honestly that looks pretty good, my sister got into UCLA and she had a few c’s, she had a really good personal statement so Ive hope youve put some time into that
Thanks! And oh yeah… You can bet I spent a long time on them. Was she in state or out of state?
she was in state, and she played the first gen/hispanic card pretty hard lol
Haha hey if it benefits you why not. Lucky she’s in state though. If I get accepted, being out of state might hold me back.
What major are you thinking about?
Biology or business. Those are the two I listed. They said that saying a major doesn’t impact it at all. In fact, they said a lot of applicants say they’re undecided.
Your essays will need to be very strong – You will be very close. And I hope you left “Sophomore Prince, Homecoming King” off…
I didn’t. I thought about keeping them off but I was like ehh I have academic awards in there already so why not. I just wanted to list as many as possible honestly
I think you have a pretty good shot!

That’s interesting, because from what I’ve heard it matters quite a bit…especially for impacted, competitive majors like biology or engineering, it is much more competitive than something like say…history. In addition, declaring a major is important because if you want to try engineering, it is hard to switch majors into engineering once you’re in whereas you can always switch out from engineering to a less competitive major.
I could be wrong though. Can you elaborate on what you’ve heard?
