UCLA... what are my chances?

UCLA has always, always been my dream school, and I just want to now what my shot is right now :)

I'm a Junior at a competitive middle college high school (college and high school) and have racked up 24 units and an avg GPA of 3.9 (my current gpa is 4.2 w, 3.8 uw)

I have taken 4 honors classes and 1 AP (my new school doesn't offer AP), so far.

As far as my extra-curricular activities go, I've done quite a few, but not for a long time and no big leadership positions (AYSO Soccer, Hip-Hop team, outside competitive dance [also did 2 shows in college], Speech&Debate [competed], Circle of Friends [for disable students] founding member, Theatre [small part in show], Amnesty International, Improv Club). But, I was a member of California Junior Scholarship Federation for 2 years, a National Honor Society Member for all 3 (I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Secretary position next semester and possible President next year), and have done over 120+ volunteer hours at church [clean-up, church building, actress in kid's programs] and at a UCLA hospital.

I have already written an admissions essay and had it proofread by a few teachers who said it was well done (I did it on my traumatic experience of fainting in the hospital during volunteering).

I haven't taken my SAT yet but I plan on taking it in March and am currently taking ElitePrep to study up (will taking the ACT be good, too?) What should I get?

I took my PSAT blind (I didn't even know I was taking it) and I got a 170 -.-'

Sorry for the long post, I'm just so enthusiastic about college and I just want to get into UCLA so badly!

Oh, and I am also looking into UCSD, UCSB, Pepperdine, BU, and Princeton (it's my impossible option).

You have good ECs and GPA. Are you in state? UCLA is difficult, so I'd recommend studying for the SAT/SAT IIs because judging by your PSAT score (no offense), it might not be high enough. I'd recommend the SAT book "Up Your Score: The Underground Guide to the SAT"; it's funny and really useful! I read it a for about 20 minutes once a week and, based on practice tests, my scores and even grammar are noticeably improving! Good luck, you can do it.

P.S. That's awesome you've already written your essay!! You're a step ahead of the game.

Definitely study up for your SATs. It is definitely a good idea to take the ACT. A lot of people do better on it. If you do worse, you dont have to send your ACT scores to your colleges. I think your target range should be 2000+ and 30+ on the SAT and ACT respectively for UCLA... assuming you are instate. Your GPA looks good. I think you are definitely on the right track. Post again in a year with more detailed stats. :)

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/633800-will-community-college-me.html

Thank you :)
That definitely makes me feel better, I've been freaking out about it for a while now, ha ha.
I will definitely check out that book of yours, sounds awesome!
(It'll definitely be good on top of SAT school)

And yes, I am in-state (CA born), first generation, and a minority (Filipino/Hawaiian)

Thank you for all the imput!

I think that you have a very good shot at UCLA, just make sure that you study for at least 6-8 weeks before taking a standardized test, and also do at least 6 practice tests beforehand. Also, try to fit in the SAT and ACT as early as possible, because you will probably want to retake both at least once, along with taking subject tests. DO NOT study for the SAT at the same time you are studying for the ACT, or vice versa, because the two tests are very different and both require their own unique strategies. I also suggest buying at least two prep books, and I have always found Kaplan's guide to help me the most.

Good Luck!!!
