I've a stupid question. If I receive financial aid, how many units should I take? 12 or 13?

12 I think it is.

How do you switch to an earlier oreintation session

I'm in 202 (this thurs). I haven't switch to another session.
But when I read that orientation booklet yesterday, it said you can change your session by paying 10 bucks. Actually it's on page 14 on that booklet. You need to call 310-206-6685 to make changes.

I think you can try 203 or even 202(but u have to pay 50 bucks)

Most of the classes(upper division chem classes) I want are either wait-listed or closed. This is so horrible!

people i was in the 1st session and there were only 5 seats left for most of my courses

What major is this????
is it possible to apply as business major to haas and math/econ to ucla? Because the pre-requisites are kinda different....
Will i have to take more classes to apply as different majors to 2 different schools??
Im interested in Math/Econ major and accounting minor at UCLA, but what major requires those classes?

that major is the closest thing UCLA has to a undergrad business degree.

It is Math-Applied Science-Managment/Accounting

its 1/2 math and 1/2 courses from the Anderson School of business, with 4 graduate courses.

I was thinking of changing to that but decided that Math/Econ w/Accounting minor has more options...... however its not easy to get into the UCLA accounting minor.

Shirley- Minimum for financial aid is 13 units, minimum to be considered full time by the school is 12 units. So if you have financial aid, to be considered full time you need to complete 13. Just so you know.

omg, I have to take 16 units. :(

Try to maybe take an easy Aish course for the last however many units, so even if you're taking 16 it won't be intense.

What's your major?

allie , that is NOT true, minimum for financial aid is 12 units and full time is 12 units, not 13.

How do I maintain my eligibility for aid?
In order to maintain your eligibility for aid you must adhere to the quarterly unit requirements. The Financial Aid Office checks your units on the census date at the end of third week of classes. Enrollment below half-time on that date will result in cancellation of your aid and billing for funds disbursed. Some undergraduate awards (Federal Pell Grand and Cal Grant B stipend) require enrollment in 12 units to maintain your eligibility. Enrollment below 12 units on the census date will result in reduction of those awards. NOTE: Once aid is reduced/canceled it will not be reinstated automatically. If your unit count increases after the census date you must contact the Financial Aid Office. Federal Pell Grant will not be reinstated if your unit count increases after the census date.

the 13 units thing is for degree progress and applies more so to freshman than to transfer students.

every even numbered quarter they check how many units you have completed toward your degree.

Most transfer students enter with units above the requirments for their quarter anyways, so you will always end up being ahead of the game and do not need tow orry about that 13 unit thing.

My major is biochem. I have 105 units now.
Just came back from orientation. I wasted the whole afternoon to plan course, as all the counselors said my original plan was too difficult. Damn, it's so sucks. I wasted almost 4 hours on planing class without a computer. It would be much better if I brought my own laptop. All the counselors told me I should take 3 classes. Originally I wanted to take neurosci, but my group member told me it is a very hard class. Then I switched to psych 115. I wonder if it's a hard class also.

One of my group member said "f**k u" for almost ten times during class registration. LAMO.

K, my memory failed me. I don't collect financial aid so I was going off what I recalled a counselor saying. And, actually, the counselor may have been wrong, cuz I definitely remember hearing 13 and financial aid in the same sentence (seperate from academic progress which is mostly irrelevant for transfers). Anyways, whatever. http://www.fao.ucla.edu/Forms/pdfs/sapguide_06.pdf this should help, for future reference.

and Shirley- was your group member another incoming transfer? cuz...uh...how would they know? But yeah, orientation is a waste of time. O counselors don't always know what theyre talking about.

Regardless, I'm sure you'll be fine. It might be best to take a lighter class load your first quarter, especially if you're in a tough major. It takes a while to get acclimated and if you're bogged down in too many intense courses it will be HARD. It's difficult enough being in a new place with new goals without worrying about failing stuff your first quarter. Take it slow and in winter you can get all hardcore.

Yeah orientation registration sucks. Everyone has to deal with it though, so whatever. It gets easier.

Yes the class planning thing was F***** moronic.

the posting on the walls... *** is that,

for 110 dollars they could have printed us a copy.

Was it really that bad?

I just remember that last year we went to the covel computer lab during our free time and figured everything out. And then at 8 or 9 or whenever we just hung out in our O counselor's room and registered on some laptops. Wasn't all that bad, just sucked because stuff was closing. But the process itself wasn't crazy.
