UCLA Work Study Jobs

I've applied to several office jobs and attached my resume, but not a single one has responded to me? Am I doing something wrong? I didn't think they would be too competitive, afterall, they are just minor jobs... Am I supposed to call them , perhaps?

Out of 45 emails I got only 7 interviews and 2 job offers. You really have to put the effort to get a job. Only about 15 actually responded.

Some of them don’t respond to you. You have to mass email bunch of employers. I did that just before Fall '10 and my response rate was around 30- 40%. If interested, they’ll tell you they want to schedule an interview with you.

Work study jobs might just be the hardest ones to get. Just keep trying, someone will contact you eventually.

The one bit of advise I can give to you is to make sure to send a cover letter, even when not indicated to do so. Making that cover letter specific to the job will be most important because it will show that you actually read the post and you are showing interest. Even if you don’t have much work experience, selling your personality traits and skills will increase your chances.
Have you also considered simply applying to the part time job positions listed on UCLA’s job/career website. There are many positions in the Westwood/West LA/SaMo area that you could commute to.

IM Sports is hiring new officials for basketball or soccer (you choose) in the first week of winter quarter. Just bring a resume and cover letter into the competitive sports office (2nd floor of wooden, all the way in the back, turn left and last door on your right), and then there’s a small interview. Last quarter we hired just about everyone that applied (one person was not hired because they answered their cell phone during the interview).
