UCLA

Hello,
I was wondering what my chances are regarding admission to UCLA. My freshmen year GPA was absolutely horrid (2.5). However, it has risen immensely, with a 3.5 sophomore year and a 3.9-4.0 my junior year, with a number of APs. Also, my SAT score is incredibly average, at an 1800. I have good EC's: I've started a religious diversity club, I am captain of my schools debate team and ranked as the top speaker in NJ, I am politically active, and I've written for a politically oriented online magazine. Furthermore, I am a black belt and work as a assistant, teaching martial arts. Additionally, I will have glowing recommendations from truly qualified teachers. Unfortunately, I am an out of state student (NJ) which I know can hinder my chances. I would love some insight regarding my chance of admission.
Thank you very much

@Shrinkrap‌ I appreciate the link! I must say, it was slightly depressing. I suppose UCLA was too much of a reach.

Check out the number of A-G abd honors/AP classes completed!

@Shrinkrap‌ Will do! Thanks for the tip.

Take the SAT again and score a 1900 or higher to greatly improve your chances!

@peterg123‌ I recently scored an 1860, are the 40 points that significant?

So it sounds like you have a UC GPA (weighted 10-12) of around a 3.9/unweighted GPA of about 3.7 or so with an SAT score of 1860. you are still a bit below the average UCLA admit’s stats (don’t worry, I am too…) The average UC GPA is about a 4.2 and the average unweighted is a 3.9. The average SAT score is a 2060. You still have a chance, but other UC’s would probably admit you for sure. Maybe look into Santa Cruz, Irvine, Santa Barabara, Davis, etc.

@peterg123‌ Wow! Thanks, that response is incredibly helpful. I will probably apply and hope for the best. Ultimately, my chances are probably better at a school like Davis and Irvine.
