any tips on getting into ucla as a college transfer? tips on the application?
- PREREQS!! Most important thing. UCLA is notorious for rejecting 4.0 students for missing a single prereq. Go to assist.org, click your CC, then UCLA + your major, to see what your prereqs are. You must complete ALL of those classes by the spring before you transfer. But if you're major is impacted, meaning there are way more applicants than seats available, you want to finish the prereqs ASAP, maybe even by the fall before you transfer if it's possible.
- IGETC- that' the general education program, your CC will certify completion of the program. You can also do breadth instead particularly if you're an engineering or science major
- GPA obviously. Look at what the avg gpa is for your major and at the least, try to be within the range.
- TAP- that's the honors program. You get certification after completing X amount of honors units with X GPA and some research papers. It gives you priority in the admissions process. And in a school as selective as UCLA, any sort of priority is invaluable. TAP isn't required, there are plenty students who get in w/o it, but it is recommended.
- ECs- the UCs aren't as adamant about ECs with us transfers as they are with HS students. But you wanna do something outside of your academics to show that you can be well-rounded and capable of contributing to the community. They prefer leadership positions but if that's not possible, try to volunteer, join clubs, maybe even part-time job. It's also best to do something within your major to show interest in it.
do you have any tips for personal statements?
