TAP UCLA Dilemma (Help)

Hey CC, this may seem like a silly question, but I was hoping that someone would be able to help me out with this. I am applying to UCLA with TAP into a heavily impacted major, econ. Currently, my projected schedule next semester in the fall will allow me to complete my pre-requisites and IGETC by the fall semester and before the spring semester. However, I will not be completing TAP until the spring semester. I do know that you can get certified even if you don’t complete TAP until the spring, but I will be taking 3 honors courses in the spring in order to complete TAP. The difficulty of the honors courses are not a problem, but I was wondering if it would make my application look bad and make me less competitive when UCLA looks at my application and sees that I still have to complete 3 honors courses for TAP.

My dilemma right now is whether or not I should take an extra honors course next semester in the fall on top of the pre-requisites that I am currently taking or if I should just take my 3 honors courses next semester.

Thanks for reading and any help is appreciated!

You can finish TAP in spring.

However, you don’t need to finish IGETC by fall. Maybe switch one IGETC out for spring and do another honors in fall. Although I’m not sure it will matter either way. Someone else might have more insight.

I went through TAP at my CC, and the impression I got about the process was that UCLA will accept your CC’s standards for certification. They’ll treat you the way they will any other TAP member who’s been certified.

You should, then, be in a good position to complete those last honors courses in spring and not stress yourself too much about completing them earlier. Still, you should review this with a counselor. TAP counselors will know more.

Thank you guys for the help, you guys put me at ease. As for the TAP/honors program counselor, I have already met with her before and asked her about this question. However, she’s not particularly known for being reliable among the honors students, which is why I came to ask you guys for help. Anyways, thanks.
