ucla's strongest majors

what are ucla's strongest majors? does it lean towards the humanities or the sciences or pre-professional? i mean, obviously it's good overall...but does it have a particularly strong dept in one field?

the majors that CCers are under.

In all due seriousness, I think bus-econ is pretty good.

to tell you the truth, UCLA is one of those schools that has all around strong majors. All of them are pretty strong. I can't think of any that are weak.

biology! haha.

Neuroscience is strong.

i also think UCLA is strong all-around. as in every major is one of the top in the nation, but not the very brty top, and none of them standout because they're all good.

it'd probably be easier for you to name which departments you're interested in and for us to comment on its strength (or weakness)

how bout econ?

business economics is very strong (solid econ department + management classes taken at the Anderson School) and very popular... too popular in fact. many of the (regular) economics majors are considered the business-economics rejects (though certainly there are exceptions).

Econ is a top 10-15 department. I've seen it usually hover around 10-13 in most rankings.

Philosophy, English, History are pretty solid, generally speaking. Oh yeah, Film, anyone?

what about biophysics?

Look at the requirements: It should be strong too.

thanks! it does seem strong, lots of high-level classes.

design is pretty strong

Now that I think about it, UCLA's pre-medical majors are strong in general.

Yeah, history does have a good reputation. ;)

Design is very strong as demonstrated by the competition to get into the program and the success students experience upon graduation (getting jobs).

Actually speaking of History... One day I'm walking over around Bunche and a campus tour was taking place off to the side of me. According to the tour guide the History department here is ranking in the top 10 in the nation. Now I know the tour guide was trying to sell the school, but considering I'm in the department and had never heard that, I found it interesting.

allena,

Are you kidding me? Really? I had at least two history professors tell me so during office hours. Umm...who were they... Philips and Huang.

BTW, Philips may be an ass, but he's a great professor and outstanding lecturer.
