Ucm?

Is UCM going to take the place of UCR as the “dumpster” school of the UC system?

Why do you automatically think it's the "dumpster" school? And any UC school beats most Cal states.

because next year its gonna be easy as pie to get into merced.

UCR now takes all the UC eligible students. Everyone says its the school where all the under qualified students go... I am just wanted to know if UCM will be taking these students as well...

I don't think Merced is going to have an actual policy of admitting all eligible students like Riverside does, but I'm sure they're going to admit them anyway.

Which location is more attractive UCM or UCR?

ive never been to riverside, but UCM is decent looking (off campus, when i visited the campus was closed). it was a lot of flat land and a couple trees that were obviously planted there... theres a lake like right next to campus, that might have some attractive scenery

UCM's campus is state-of-the-art. off campus there isn't much to do, well, compared to UCR. UCR is in a city and its students do make trips to LA and orange county. but if you appreciate clean air, UCM > UCR.

Do you think UCM is better academically?

First, I am sure that UCM is going to be a great public institution and will quickly find a spot in the top 100 public Universities. The UC system could have helped this new school off the ground with a policy that allowed the first few years of applicants to be easily transferred into the other UCs notably Cal and UCLA for their junior year if they had a certain cum and course requirements. I think this might have attracted some additional aspiring applicants for the opening class. After two years at the school a number of the students who applied with the intention of transferring would have decided to stay and the school would have a reputation of having top notch students.
