My D was accepted @Storrs, but unfortunately, no merit awards which eliminates UCONN as an option. With merit awards from UMASS and UVM, it would be hard to justify a 200K tuition over 4 years at UCONN for a state school when UMASS would be literally half that amount. I wish they would throw us OOS’ers a bone, as the OOS pillage rates are just too high. On the plus side, a slot will be opening up on the wait list soon for some lucky student

My son on Monday (we noticed on-line) that he was admitted from the waiting list. Have yet to receive the decision letter via US mail. We are OOSers too so not sure yet.

@skbandrewsmom you can check financial aid section online to see what was offered.

hi i was wondering if financial aid is given to students who have come off the wait list like myself? and if so, when do we find out? nothing is showing on the student admin system. has anyone who was also taken off the waitlist been given aid yet?

@roykun we were on the waitlist and we have not heard about financial aid yet. I’m assuming we will hear by then end of this month.

Check your portal page and there is a section for financial aid you can click on.

The wait is killing me. All of my friends know where they’re going and are so happy. So jealous :((

@kayyx3dee…you still have not heard back? Did they tell you that you were waitlisted?

@Twinmom2014 I’m waitlisted, but I’m kind of a special case. My extra transcript wasn’t sent to UCONN so they thought I hadn’t taken physics (required for nursing), but I actually had. I wasn’t really supposed to be wait listed, but the nursing school is already full. Admissions told me I’m supposed to find out before May 1st, but I can’t find out anything until nursing kids starts withdrawing their apps so there can be a spot for me

@kayyx3dee…ah yes I remember your story. I am sure you are on top of the list. I have been telling my girls if you are not going to a certain school tell them. Especially knowing this story I am going to remind them again.

@Twinmom2014 I hope so! Yeah I’ve done the same thing with my other schools since I know how much the waiting stinks. I’m thinking that maybe after admitted students day this weekend, people will start making decisions and a spot might open up. Good idea! :-bd

@kayyx3dd definitely contact them often, make sure they are reminded of your situation and how UConn is your choice school to attend. Good luck, I think you are right that after the weekend, withdrawals will open up options for you!

What did everyone think of accepted students day?

We attended the program yesterday. At the Engineering Open House a few months ago, I didn’t think the school did a very good job. Seemed disorganized and their selection of speaking professors in individual sessions didn’t help. This time, the engineering presentations really impressed my son. It seemed like there was far more information and sessions available, but too little time to attend them all. I know its hard to avoid, but we found ourselves criss-crossing the campus to get to the sessions we wanted to hear.

Got a little tired of EVERYONE session mentioning the basketball teams. I know you’re proud, but a lot of the day came across as “You should attend UConn because of have great basketball teams.”

We heeded the warning about traffic and arrived on campus by 8am. Other parents told us that traffic on Rt.195 into campus backed up all the way to and onto I-84 (6+ miles) and took over an hour to get to campus from the highway.

We also arrived early, around 7:50 am and parked on first level of North garage. We enjoyed the day, my daughter and we got alot of information during the breakout Elementary Ed program. The professor was awesome and was very approachable. We did most on our own as we had been a few times and the day was nice enough to walk around. My husband had never been to the campus and was very impressed. I’ll get the final answer from DD when she returns from UConn this evening, she spent the night with friends on campus.

We arrived at 8AM, no traffic, no issues, simple to park next store to Gampel. After sitting through 4 other openings as admitted students days, we thought UCONN’s was about right. Bringing out both National Championship teams at the very end was a nice touch. While you could tell that there was a general excitement about winning the NCAA events the day was geared toward education from the vantage point we experienced. (Who wouldn’t be excited about the NCAA’s after winning both championships less then a week earlier.) If you didn’t get to Gampel early you missed some performances that highlighted various artistic groups who are at UCONN.

As far as the sessions, the ones we went to were great. We were able to discuss the programs with the Dean’s of various schools and have interaction with at least 8 students who were in the programs. All spoke about the programs, the schools, the challenges, etc. (We didn’t hear about the basketball teams after the initial opening at Gampel.)

We spoke with people who are part of the learning communities, who are in clubs and who have both very difficult and somewhat easier classes. All and all UConn was very similar to the other schools we visited that were somewhat smaller in nature. UCONN offers a lot, but is a bigger school with larger classroom courses to start. (Once in your major the classrooms shrink in size.) I think like every school UConn has their pluses and minuses. My son is leaning UConn, but has not made the final decision yet. I have two brothers and a niece who went there. They all liked the experience and would go back. All said, it is a big University and takes getting used to, but in the end, none of them would have gone anywhere else. Good-Luck to everyone !!

Decision made…URI for Engineering. So disheartened by UCONN and their entire admission process.

@tylemsmom Daughter #2 will be going to URI also, D#1 accepted for Storrs for engineering but will not be attending…choices are narrowed down to 2 schools, no decision yet!

My son is going to URI as well. I continue to get recruitment (marching band) emails from UCONN even though they did not accept him to the Storrs campus.

I was accepted off of the waitlist for Storrs on April 1st. Actually really surprised I got in because I applied thinking it was of the same status as UMASS and James Madison. I didn’t realize how difficult it was to get in here. So congrats to everyone!

got rejected from my first, UMD, but looking at the stats for both schools, it looks like UCONN and UMD are pretty much equal. The acceptance rate for UCONN is actually lower than UMD.

Sending my deposit in for UCONN later this week! GO HUSKIES
