UConn BA/MD

Just curious did anyone on CC apply to the UConn combined program?

i applied too. but im oos. do you know when we might get called for an interview?

i'm oos also. i believe interviews are in feb./march

did you guys get in?

Im at uconn right now, first year.
I think emails for interviews come out in late february/early march, and then decisions end of march.
good luck everyone

pianoman3700: Oh cool. How is it there? Also, do you know how many students they accept into the program each year?

thanks in advance!

I applied to the UConn BA/MD program. I got into the regular school but haven’t heard anything yet

I applied too (it’s my first choice!). The deadline for all supplementary materials was January 1, so we shouldn’t be hearing back for at least another month or two.

I’m in the same boat as everyone else…waiting to hear back

i have the same question as enemyunit…how many apply / get interviews / accepted?

Are you guys all from CT?

I got in EA and got in w/ honors and scholarship

have you guys applied to other med programs?

also i saw in another forum that 25% of the students drop out of the program…did you guys hear any other rumors?

I’m OOS (Cali) and got that 46K scholarship and honors program (what the hell does honors program even do?) Oh and I’m EA

I applied to UMKC 6-year program and didn’t make the first cut for interviews. On one hand I’m disappointed, because that just killed my admission streak, but on the other hand I’m actually glad because I already ruled it out as a college choice because of the insane freaking amount of money needed, and also UMKC’s general crappiness as a medical school (I’m not trying to bag, it’s just that their research is subpar and they dont even show up on the ranking lists at all–>very bad lol)

I applied to Wayne State University’s medstart program. Waiting to hear back. I haven’t ruled them out, because there is something like free tuition if you get into medstart, but the medstart is only 20 people per year which is insane, and also it’s in detroit, michigan…Not exactly the place I want to be (high crime rate), especially in this recession.

Damn…25% washout rate is insanely high. You better try to substantiate that, because if it’s true then that’s a serious drawback to attending. I have not heard of any other rumors. I actually haven’t heard anything at all about UConn’s program lol.

Yeah, I wondering where you found that stat. I mean, it seems a bit large, but it makes sense at the rigid programs that don’t allow people much freedom, like UMKC or something where it’s intense for 6 years.

This is from UConn’s website:
"It is estimated that between 200 and 300 applicants will apply. The office will provide a complete summary listing of applicants to the School of Medicine justifying its initial selection. It is expected that the office will select approximately 50 candidates for further consideration by the School of Medicine.

The School of Medicine’s Admission Committee will then evaluate these candidates. It is expected that the committee will select about 20 to 25 candidates for interviews. Interviews at the medical school will be required for any candidates under consideration for CPiM admission. The school will provide a rank-ordered list of acceptable candidates to the admission office."

I’m guessing they don’t notify you if your application has been forwarded to the med school (at least I haven’t heard anything). I’m in-state, but I don’t know how much that would help me.

about that stat…i don’t remember where i found it it was late last night when i was looking at these threads and just wanted to hear if anyone else heard about it…i don’t believe it at all though…that’s just me

i asked about the numbers b/c when i called the undergrad admiss office htey said they expected more appplicants this year (but i dont know how reliable this source was)…just wanted to see if anyone else heard that rumor too

do you guys know anyone in the program / heard any inside scoop about it?

nope I haven’t really heard anything about it at all.

meesh: I’m pretty sure being in-state will give you an edge when it comes to preference. It sucks being OOS haha.

All i know is that I’m in the top 6-7% of UConn’s applicants (hence the scholarship) so that gives me a shot. Don’t know how good it is though.

I honestly haven’t heard ANYTHING about the program. Nothing good, nothing bad, just nothing at all. I hear a lot about other programs, such as UMKC, but it seems that no CCers are in CPim.

I searched “CPiM” on here and found a few people who got in the program. Out of the three people I found (who posted stats), 2 were OOS and 1 was IS, so I don’t think UConn puts as much emphasis on IS preference as, say, some of the Ohio BS/MD programs.

However, most of the people I found were from a while back and haven’t been on CC recently.

CPiM is fairly new (it started in 2001) and is a lot less advertised than some of the other programs (PLME, HPME, REMS, etc). They didn’t even mention it when I visited UConn, but more and more people are finding out about it, so competition is getting increasingly fierce :(.

I know that the '08 sal. at my school got rejected from CPiM (and got into Yale and Princeton). But the CC stats, from what I seen, aren’t astronomically insane. UConn probably put more emphasis on the subjective stuff, like essays.

Just got my interview notification today by email

Same here!

does anyone know what basis the Connecticut program interviews are being given out? like rolling admission? whoever applied first or if all the interviews have been given out on just one day, today?

No idea.
I’d give it a week to let them notify you, and if not then probably a reject.

I haven’t heard from them today, so I’m hoping to get an email soon ><

It’s not rolling, because I submitted my supplemental application literally right before the holiday break (aka right before the deadline).

Does UConn inform you if you are accepted via email or mail?
