@becautious thank you SO much for your input. I think the problem is me. S also got accepted to FSU, University of Miami (to close), UCF and University of Michigan. I am benching myself on this one. His choice and I will support his decision. Thank you again!
I’m not sure if a transfer student withdraws an application if it helps anyone, but I decided to withdraw. I love UConn, it’s close to where I live, but unfortunately I was given a better financial aid package at the University of Maine in Orono. Best of luck to everyone going to UConn!
@belink You are sooo brave to ‘bench yourself’. That’s soo hard to do, but in the end it is four years of their particular journey in life. Unless one of those others gave you a lot more money and you have to consider finances, I guess we can’t really tell them where to invest the four years of their lives or they could resent us later. They have to follow their hearts. Let me know what he decides. When do you think he will decide? Is he torn, or does he have an obvious connection with one of them?
@becautious Again thank you for your sound advice. The only school that didn’t give my S money is the one I like the best… I am recently divorced and my ex refuses to pay for the kids colleges so the scholarships really helps specially with 2 in college.
@belink Sorry for that. I am taking my son to Southbeach for his final April break, 4/18-4/21 as he’s always wanted to go there. I’ve been saving my miles from my travel for business and can’t wait. Private message me if you want. Maybe we could grab coffee in Southbeach. Good to know other potential Husky moms.
UCONN looking more and more like a good option for my son. It’s in his top 3 or 4 so after accepted students day I hope he can finally decide where he wants to go. Hard to turn down the scholarship and honors college plus its a cool school.
@LIParent101 Wow! Your son got scholarship and Honors? Congrats! What is his major?
My son was in a similar situation last year. He’s s freshman at UCONN in the pre-sports management program and happy. I thought UCONN was not much of a college town. When we visited, there did not seem like much to do off campus. Conversely, I loved Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. It’s definitely a college town but the decision wasn’t mine.
My son does not come home on the weekend so he must have found things to keep him occupied. He did say in the beginning he was a little bored but I suspect he was still trying to find friends Even if there were bars he would be underage until senior year so he’s probably not missing much there.
Something to consider, the Sports Management major is not part of the business school at UCONN. Your son will have to do a double major if he wants to include business.
My son is happy with his decision, which is all that matters. My only compliant is that transportation to the airport or a train is not easy without a car. It cost $60 each way for the shuttle to the airport.
@becautious he’s MEM (mgt for engineering and manufacture)
@becautious he’s engineering management for manufacture @motortrend I know you are same from other thread :). I’m looking forward to April 9
It seems like a great major. I wonder if anyone else is in that intended major.
@ohnymom it seems I am experiencing what you experienced last year. S is admitted for “duel major” BS and Sports Management. I am curious, was your S in the Honors Program as well? I am very interested in knowing more about your experience. Thank you!
My son is not in the honors program. A year later and he still likes UConn. His only compliant is that there is no Chiptole near campus, which is valid, imo… lol
Another school I liked was OH State because of the campus size and town. My son also liked it but chose UConn. I have asked a few times if he wants to transfer and the response is always no I am happy at UConn.
I suggest going to admitted student day if you can. We went last year. You will get a ton of information about the school and available resources.
The presentation by the Sports Management program was awesome. It was organized and information. The professor who gave the presentation to a standing room crowd was knowledgeable and throughly answered all questions. He also explained why SM is in the College of Education vs College of Business but I can’t remember the explanation… Lol
The Business school presentation was also popular. A lot of the students who went to the SM presentation went to the business school presentation. I suspect most students do a dual major.
I’ll be happy to answer any specific questions you may have.
Good luck to your son! He has acceptances from top schools.
Hi everyone, I know this is an old thread but im applying to uconn for the class of 2021. My gpa is 3.45 from a very competitive highschool and an ACT of 30. Lots of extracurriculurs and a good essay. What are my chances looking like? @becautious
How’d it go?
