UCONN Class of 2020 Decision Thread- for Storrs location

No so I figured we didn’t get any. That bottom line number just looks a bit much!

I’ve heard that UConn is about $50,000 for OOS students. Hopefully more details will come out.

@jakeybake I think you said you were in MA, so yes, if you did not get merit or financial aid, it would be $50k+ for UConn. I’ve read that unless determined that you truly demonstrate need, often financial aid is not significant, or comes in the from of a loan at about 7% and not much of anything beyond that. Most financial advisors will tell you that household take-home income is what a lot of the decisions are made upon. Household debt does not have much of an impact, it’s the take-home pay of both parents that is considered closely. That’s for any college or university, not specific to UCONN. I hope everyone gets the package they want and can make it work to attend if you’ve been accepted. I know how much everyone on here likes UCONN. There is so much to like about it. Good luck everyone!

@jakeybake , @greenhk the following is the cost for just 1 semester…so double the numbers for the cost of 1 year for OOS.

Got my financial too.

I have to say that the UCONN student access is the worst system my daughter has had to deal with. Never been able to consistently access it. She has had to contact the help desk multiple times to re-access. What’s that about?

My daughter accepted to the neurobiology & physiology program. In state: 2080 SAT, 30 ACT 3.9 weighted GPA. Her dad and I are alumni which is exciting for us. She also got a $6500 merit scholarship which we are thrilled about since she is in-state. Most likely will be a Husky!!

We got $0 from them. We are OOS so price tag would be $53k. Not happening. Cost is outrageous.

@prouddad26 Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble accessing the UConn student center/login. I’ve never had issues or problems and have always find it a simple process to access. Not sure why you are having difficulties.

@ProudDad26 Did you try switching browsers? Maybe use Chrome or Firefox? I know sometimes switching works.l Good luck. @jayanderson04 Congrats to your daughter and impressive stats. Nice to keep that Husky blood running through your fam! @jakeybake Sorry to hear it won’t work out for your student and wish you the very best wherever you decide to go. We are all lucky to have great kids! Blessings to all and thank you all for the informative posts and for helping one another.

Thanks @becautious and same to you. My son’s first choice is Ohio State and he was accepted into their Engineering program back in December and paid the acceptance fee so all roads are leading to Columbus. I loved UConn when we toured it but even if they gave him some money he probably still ends up at OSU. Congrats and best of luck to all and I agree, we have great kids and are lucky to have to make these decisions.

@becautious sorry haven’t been on in awhile! We are instate and he is on waitlist for Business School. Although if he didn’t get into BS he would major in Communications at UConn.

@belink, NO! My daughter is sophomore there and never comes home! There are over 18000 undergrads so even if a lot went home it still would be a busy, vibrant campus on weekends!

@ProudDad26 I have FERPA access to my sophomore’s acct and she nor I have never had an issue logging in, checking on anything anywhere!

Is anyone else waiting for a decision?

My decision was posted on the portal last week, but there’s still no official acceptance letter or Fin Aid award notification.

My daughter was accepted into the Physiology and Neurobiology program. It qualifies under the regional program. Interesting that they add some fees on top of the tuition before multiplying by 1.75. Cost will be about 40 all in. More than what I hoped for but still not all that much more than UNH. Penn State is other finalist.

Congrats to your daughter! I remember that you are hoping she stays close. I hope it works out for her for UConn. It’s not as close as UNH for you, but not as far as Penn State

My S and I just visited/toured UConn yesterday. UConn itself was very nice but Storrs… No bars or clubs for the kids to hangout? Where do they hangout? What do the kids do Thursday-Saturday night?S loves sports and got accepted to the Sports Management program and the Honors program. S really liked UConn but I am concerned that coming from Miami S will not really like going to a school like UConn? I would appreciate any insight to my predicament. Thank you!

From what I understand from other posts it’s a very involved campus and has a ton of spirit, but you have to join the clubs, recreational sports teams, etc. Those that have graduated from there just looooved their time there. Personally I like the idea that there it’s not a big bar/club scene, as the majority of time they are in college they are not 21, so I feel like any party scene on campus with have some attempt of oversight by staff and campus police. I think that helps keep the party scene ‘in check’ a bit, but I could be wrong on that, and I ‘get’ that coming from Miami it would be very different, but it might be a good thing to experience fun in a different way. Congrats to your son for being accepted to such a prestigious sports management program and Honors to boot! He has to follow his heart. If there is somewhere else he’s been accepted that has an equally good sports program and honors, plus has the bar/club scene he might be looking for, then he has to consider that, but if his heart is with the UCONN sports/honors program and the UCONN name in the sports world, and he can get involved in other ways at UCONN with clubs, he might be fully satisfied. He will always find fun/social life in other ways. Kids are kids and they always find a way to be social and have fun. Good luck with whatever he decides. You must be very proud of him.
