Great question…depends what you’re looking for…do you want to be near downtown, do you want a small building/less people, larger building with more people, have a dining hall in your building, be near most of your classes…my daughter is a science major and lives across the street from the bio & chemistry buildings. Some rooms are bigger, some have a desk with shelves, some are so small beds must be bunked. My daughter is in NW and loves it. She plans on requesting alumni next year only cause it’s s bigger room. NW will be her 2nd choice. Towers is kinda removed from center of campus. East has the oldest buildings. North is called the jungle. There are 4 smaller buildings in NW, my daughter got one of those…only 3 floors that are full with about 15 rooms per floor.
I can’t find a UConn class of 2019 thread anymore…I know I referred to it before…
@DonnaEV I think that was the Admissions Decisions one and you have to go way down to get to the 2015 posts.
Also, @TLD1267 You have been so helpful and giving of your time to this thread. Thanks! Where do you live TLD? Maybe if we all attend the same Accepted Students Day we parents can get together for coffee while the youngsters run around to all they attend. It would be fun to meet each other and personally thank TLD and others! We live in MA, South Shore.
I live in NJ. There is only 1 accepted students day at UCONN…and it’s packed. I went last year! I am glad to help…I didn’t know what to expect and it’s a crazy process. Posts on this site helped me last year. All through middle school and HS I had kind souls offer me great advice and was always so thankful…just paying it forward.
@TLD1267 Ok I see that the Accepted Student day is Saturday 4/9 9am -3pm. And Husky for A Day dates range from 3/23-4/20. Do you have a student who applied this year as well, or just your daughter who is already there?
@TLD1267 Thank you for the information. I need some help in this arena. We live in Miami and my son is trying to decide between UMich or UConn (if he gets in). I don't anyone from my area that goes to UConn. I know lots about UMich but nothing about UConn. He is a business major. He wants to be in the dorm where ALL the action is regardless of location. My oldest son is a Junior at USC and his closest friends still are mostly kids he meet in his dorm/floor. I want the same for for my younger S.
I only have 1 child…I check this blog occasionally for info…but with a friend waiting to hear I have been on here alot lately. I made a friend last year on here…we email privately now…help each other out…our kids have never met. As far as action…UCONN has so much going on all the time…and something for everyone…my daughter loves it…so do I. There is a mix in every dorm of all ages…he would probably like a bigger dorm like North…but he will have no choice.
My daughter has mostly frosh on her floor, but made most of her friends in her FYE class. First Year Experience class. it was 1 credit…In her major it was more like a vent session 1 hour a week, helping them adjust, asking questions about any topic. They had them redo their resumes to be ready for applying for internships. I have heard that in some majors its not like that but rather work…but for us it was AWESOME! She also has a small major so the same kids are in many classes together. She also tried out for the Equestrian Team and made it…so while most of the other girls are older…only 2 frosh made it….they are a nice group of girls…very sweet, helpful and encouraging.
FYI ~ I just called the Admissions Office and the representative stated that decisions will NOT be release until March 1st! She said that she can almost guarantee that they will not be released at the end of this week due a system upgrade that is scheduled to take place late Friday/early Saturday morning. Not sure what to believe anymore, but wanted to share this information! Again, good luck to all candidates and parents!
@belink My daughter applied to UConn and we live in Wellington FL! We should touch base again if they both get in!
Here in NJ we begged our daughter to go south to warm weather…Gainesville or SC. She didn’t want hot weather…now here are 2 families from Florida looking at brutally cold and windy UCONN! Lol!
@TLD1267 was she interested in U Florida?
@belink UMich is HUGE, so probabably more action due to sheer # of students and more spread out to accommodate but UCONN isn’t small either and lots of fun. If he wants action being involved in club or intramurals, campus activity committee, etc, is a good way to go. There’s not a lot outside of campus at UCOnn (no real college town at all), so campus is mostly where it’s at so to speak. Going to the football games and basketball games keeps the weekend inteteresting. Go to College Niche and you can see what students post, but that’s all in the eye of the poster. Good luck!
We are in Florida often…lots of friends and family there…she is pre vet…which requires working outdoors with animals and she just wouldn’t even look at the school…felt she couldn’t do manual labor on a farm in that heat. My husband and I were ready to put our house on the market and move down
Everyone’s comments are helpful here and it’s nice to know that we aren’t the only family anxiously waiting for info. First timer here! I noticed today that my son’s page for accounts has an admissions fee charge outstanding- would that be indicative of acceptance? No other specific info. He’s in the directory but he’s doing ECE this year so maybe that’s why.
@becautious- S is going in to Sports Management through the Business School path. He really likes the UConn and UMich programs. About 25 kids in his 187 graduating class are going to UMich. I think it would be interesting for him to move away from the pack. He is really in to sports and wants, if possible, to work (he is too short to play) for the UConn basketball team. He really likes the Coach. He got in to the 3 FL schools he applied but is waiting for this last decision. The only school he hasn’t visited is UConn…
@PJMamma That would certainly be a positive one would think but could be for any UCON campus potentially. What page does is say admissions fee charge on? I want to look too.
@belink OMG if that’s who he wants to work for then he has to go. Can you have him fly up if he gets in? The last UCONN home basketball game is 3/6 against Univ Central FL. It would be a great way for him to get a feel if he gets in.
@becautious You won’t believe it but we went up to Orlando to watch the UConn v. UCF game/massacre… Planning on going up if he gets in. Thanks!
Just rechecked Status. Yesterday S name was listed three times with “student” in Directory and no Uconn email address. Now has been updated. S has Uconn email!
