Thanks!! This is all new to me - learning as I go!!
@Bruins1234 sounds like you deserve that STEM scholarship
How do we negotiate?
keep in mind the additional cost for OOS when you’re considering the scholarship packages. think of them proportionally to the tuition you’d pay
@threeslykids32 we’re OOS, but our instate are UCs, where we got NO AID at all, so with Merit Aid, it’s a wash (merit aid pays for the extra cost). I mean, the flights home will be much more expensive than in state, but UCONN is a better fit and has better school spirit and is my son’s first choice, so I think where he’ll end up.
Who is attending the accepted students day on 4/14?
@overbearingmom Sitting in the shadow of Storrs here and laughed at your reference to UConn’s school spirit. Would love for my daughter to choose UConn. Has precisely the academic program she’s looking for, is far and away the most affordable option. “But Mom it has no school sprit,” my daughter complains. I suspect she’d happily pack her bags for UCLA. This is a beauty is in the eyes of the beholder moment I suppose. Here’s hoping that Dan Hurley brings UConn back to its former glory:)
@Magnetnh - we will be attending accepted students day on the 14th…
My D will be attending Open House on the 14th and Husky For A Day on April 5th
@RelocatedYankee I do say that it is clouded by my college experience and I guess what they show at Husky for a Day, but either way, I do agree that the grass is always greener. My son who got into 3 UCs wants nothing to do with them. Perhaps school spirit was the wrong word, but some of the UCs seem to be a continuation of AP classes where everyone is busy competing and not living. Again…not from personal experience. We’ll be going to UCSB and UCSD next week. Maybe they will prove me wrong.
@RelocatedYankee I’m in the same boat!
Did anyone receive the invitation to attend accepted student day via snail mail , we got the email but not the snail mail
My D was accepted for civil engineering…she did Husky for a day on 4/5 which she really enjoyed and found helpful in solidifying her decision. We deposited and are attending Accepted Student Day on Sat and staying at Nathan Hale so we can explore the campus and the area. We got a post card about, but it doesnt say much all the info is online @Hinanew
For those who have previously attended the Accepted Student Days - how bad is the traffic going in to UConn? They said the doors open at 7:45am and I am trying to plan our travel from in-state. Also, how long is the Gampel Pavillion portion? When can you venture off and check things out for yourself?
Anyone successfully appeal for more merit as an OOS student? It seems they have different tiers and am hoping to lobby for one of the higher awards. We will visiting next week and not sure whether its worth the trip to FA. Since its a public university I’ve been told it’s unlikely they would increase their merit amount.
There is a PDF of the Accepted Student Day schedule on the UCONN website…I don’t remember for certain but I think the Gampel portion ends at 10. I’m curious about traffic too and how much extra time I need to allot for parking etc.
The worst part of Accepted Student Day will be getting onto and off of the campus. I’d say get there early as there’s no harm in early. It is supposed to be a beautiful day Saturday and just walk around campus a bit if you’ve got the time. If possible, look at the routes that will allow you to avoid taking CT-195 all of the way to UConn. It will likely be ridiculously backed up and it’s single lane each direction. I highly recommend taking CT-195 to CT-44 to Discovery Drive which brings you to a back entrance to campus. It is easy to get to both the North and South parking garages with this route. Granted, there will still be traffic, but it should not be as bad. The South parking garage is a couple minute walk to Gampel and the North garage will take you maybe 10 minutes or so. (Note: I’ve got a senior at UConn now and am coming on Saturday with her soon to be freshman brother. I plan to follow my own advice!)
@skimomof3 We are coming from southern CT and a parent suggested I take 384 vs 84. Does that connect to your suggested route of CT195-CT44?
@magnetnh Yes. Your route should bring you to N. Eagleville Rd and onto campus, avoiding 195. This has you approaching the same back entrance as my route does, just from different directions.
@skimomof3 Thanks I think I’ll take that route.
