My son is a rising high school senior. Loves UCONN but I was told that virtually everyone clears out on weekends. Is this true? I can’t imagine it would be a fertile social environment if the weekends are a ghost town.
Can’t imagine where they would all go? UConn is not particularly close to anyplace. The kids who I know who go to UConn don’t generally come home on weekends. I think it has an active frat/sorority scene and all the normal large state school activities.
Ok I checked with someone who is a prof there and he agrees that most undergrads spend weekends on campus.
This is not at all true for the main campus in Storrs. It is true for the branch campuses (they’re mostly commuters) and to a lesser extent for the Connecticut state 4 yr college campuses. Perhaps your informant misunderstood which school you were asking about.
We are local. At one time it did but no longer.
Jumping in here…my daughter is an OOS freshman at UConn Storrs and while the campus is not entirely dead on the weekends, it does tend to empty out somewhat. As for where kids go…70+% are from CT so they basically go home. Not everyone, but a fair amount. It feels like less now than in the beginning of the year, and she hasn’t been bored yet. There are always people on campus and always something to do, especially if you are part of a club or a sport. All this said, I wouldn’t make this the deciding factor…she really likes it there.
