I am very close to paying my deposit for UConn Storrs and I just have a few questions about the meal plans and campus life.

First, I was wondering if the meal plan is included in tuition because I know that out of state tuition is around 40,000, but I wasn't sure if food services were included. If so, which meal plan is covered?

Second, is the campus really that isolated? It'd be great to be able to go to the mall or other places on the weekend just to spend some time off campus.

And lastly, how is the transportation? Are the buses readily available or are they often crowded or sold out?

Thank you!

Just to clear things up, tuition for OOS students is about 31K, and room and board is around 12K for everyone.

As a freshman you’re required to live on campus and have a meal plan, which is part of room and board. You get a choice of 3 tiers. The costs of each can be found here.

Getting off campus isn’t that easy as a freshman since you can’t park your car unless you have 54 credits (sophomore or junior standing). If you have friends who are upperclassmen or are part of a club that regularly goes off campus, it’s not too bad. There are normally buses that go out to nearby mall (maybe 20-30 minutes), but they only make a couple trips a day. Essentially it’s kind of a hassle, and most people consider it not worth the effort. The mall is pretty nice but it’s really spread out, so there’s not many areas to sit around like a food court or anything of that nature.

Buses are free for students and run on pretty regular schedules. During the fall/spring they’re pretty good about arriving on time, but during the winter they’re pretty unpredictable. They also have multiple apps that are supposed to have GPS tracking on the buses. I’ve heard the GPS doesn’t work, but I normally walk so I can’t say. Generally they’re decent at long as you make sure you’re on time but they’re not great.

Thank you for your input! I just have another quick question: is the meal plan included in the room and board costs or is it separate?

Your fee bill is going to be broken into 10 or so payments. Room and board are generally referred to as the dorm and meal plan payments. They estimate around $12K, but there are different tiers of dorms and meal plans, so you can’t tell exactly. If you want a better idea of what those two combined will cost, here are the room rates for next year. Scroll down to page 11 (sorry the official site is simpler but they still have to 2012-13 rates on it). You’re going to be living in a tier one double by the way. You have essentially no choice.

Basically the only way to change costs freshman year is through your meal plan. They’re going to slap you with a bunch of first time fees, so the first bill might be a bit large. After freshman year you can choose a different style of dorm (which will cost more), or move off campus and go off the meal plan (which will cost less), but you don’t really need to worry about it now.

Hi, since you know so much about this, do you know if full time students at Uconn Storrs campus need to pay per credit if you get more than 12 credits?

[UConn Bursar](http://www.bursar.uconn.edu/tuit_ugr_20132014.html)

Like is the tuition on the website above only based on 12 credits and will increase depending on the credits I take? Lets say I take 15 credits per semester? Or once you are full time the tuition will stay the same?

I really need to know before May 1st and I would like to call the Bursar’s Office but they don’t work on weekends.

Thank you in advance.

The tuition is the same regardless of how many credits you’re taking.

Wow thank you so much time to pay my enrollment fee :D
