UCONN, UNH or Ithaca

Not entirely sure of the logic behind his intended schools but my son has applied to University of Connecticut, University of New Hampshire and Ithaca College with the intention of studying Music Education. His high school grades have not been that great (2.8 GPA) but his SAT scores were fine and his musical ability is very good (he plays euphonium). Any comparative thoughts on these three institutions? I dig the new design for UCONN's recital hall and classroom spaces (Frank Gehry, no less!!!) and they seemed on the ball with the employment factor (100% employment rate for education majors). His audition there went very well. He auditions for UNH next weekend and Ithaca two weeks from now.

Any stories to tell? This is my first time out as a parent of a college applicant and I'd appreciate some insight into these institutions.

Thanks.

UNH has a fine music education program. UConn..well..you don't get accepted into the education program as a freshman, but rather have to apply at the end of your freshman year. For freshman year, you major in music...but not education. Ithaca is in the boondocks but has an excellent music program. I don't know about the education part. I know two recent grads from U of New Hampshire who were offered jobs BEFORE they graduated. The loved Durham NH as well.

Ithaca's music program is the best known nationally, but that certainly doesn't mean it's necessarily the strongest.

Thanks for the feedback. Guess we'll weigh it out as we go.

If you're a basketball fan, there's no better team out there than the UConn Huskies!
