Hi! Im currently a student at Fairfield university and I’m not quite sure I want to stay I have been heavily considering transferring to UConn (I am an instate student). I want to eventually attend a reputable law school, and I was wondering whether fairfied or UConn is the better school for this. What I mean is, is it better to go to a small private school as opposed to a bigger public school when applying to law school do students from smaller schools fair better when applying to law schools. I have been really stressed trying to figure this out on my own the past few months and would really appreciate some advice.
I’m not sure if it matters, but I will be a sophomore next year.
Whether you go to a big, small, private, or public, ultimately does not matter.
Law schools look at LSAT score, GPA, and EC’s.
Thank you for the response. Do you know if either of these schools has a better reputation for graduates getting into good law schools
Well, those metrics are not published, as far as I know. I think you should look at the institution that has the stronger curriculum for your major.
Keep in mind, undergraduate school reputation does not (and should not) play a significant role in your law school application.
When you look at both schools (Fairfield University vs University of Connecticut), ask yourself these questions:
Which school has the stronger department / curriculum for my major?
Which school has more resources (clubs, events, essentially, school resources that may hook you up with internships / employment opportunities)?
Are you getting financial aid at Fairfield? UCONN costs much less, which would be a consideration for our family of looking at Law School as well.
What is it that you are unsure about at Fairfield? Do you think UCONN would alleviate those concerns?
