Hello everyone, I’m new to this site but I need help. I have only 8 days left to make a final decision.
I am currently a senior about to go into my freshman year of college next year. I want to major in Finance at whatever school I choose to attend. I won’t be available to take a campus visit at Uconn or UAlbany before the May 1st college decision deadline. I have been accepted to a couple of schools but I have been able to bring my list down to these 2 schools. I’m 50-50 on both colleges and have no idea what to pick. Uconn is an excellent school and may even be considered a better school than UAlbany, but I will have to pay a crazy amount of money. Uconn has me paying around $41,000 a year compared to UAlbany paying $24,000 a year. (both prices are after the financial aid, in-state tuition, and even the grant I recieved).
Which college would be a better pick for me if I choose to stay for atleast 4 years?
And, is Uconn or UAlbany even worth the amount I’m having to pay?
Side Note: I’ve been denied by Upenn and Cornell, but will most likely apply for transfor to all the Ivy Leagues, NYU, and even Stanford after my first year, and again when I go to get my MBA. Even though the chance of getting accepted into one of these schools is pretty low, what school should I attend in my first year if I choose to transfer?
Ualbany without a doubt.
Uconn is not worth the cost differential.
Did you get honors college at Albany ?
Your odds of getting into these universities as a transfer are minuscule - it’s harder to get in as a transfer than as a freshman.
I did not get into the honors college.
And, I’m aware it’s harder to get in to those schools as a transfer, but it’s worth a shot!
If you’re not into the honors college at suny Albany, your odds of being admitted to the universities you listed are nonexistent so don’t think about it. Thinking about transferring may prevent you from settling properly at the college you got into. And you wouldnt be able to transfer during your first year since you wouldn’t have been able to do enough to have a shot.
Do you have other affordable choices?
What are your stats?
Note that sunny Albany is the designated flagship for business /finance (each suny has a designated 'specialty’or Focus.)
My other choices are SUNY Buffalo State, SUNY Oswego, Utica College, and The University of New Haven. I’m not too interested in these schools except for maybe New Haven. But I’m not too sure if the cost is worth it.
Buffalo State Cost: $24,000
Oswego: $24,000
Utica: $18,000
New Haven: $34,000
Suny albany is thus much better than your other choices for finance and at your best cost.
Try to do well there for your first three semesters and to get into honors after your first semester (s). It won’t be easy, so focus on that.
Albany hands down, UConn is not worth the extra cost (which uh, yeah, you should definitely worry about). Albany is more fun than Storrs IMO, and there’s a decent amount to do in and around campus.
