Hey, so if anyone knows about switching to the Art Studio major for the upcoming year, could someone explain how switching works? I’ve already attempted to change my major but I was denied because I didn’t meet some requirements but they didn’t tell me what they were. I’m originally enrolled into English as my major and wanted to switch which I thought would be easy because they’re both in the same college : CHASS. However, I sent another email but I figured the reply would take a while and wanted to see if anyone knew what I could do or what might be asked of me to do in order for me to switch. I read on the site that incoming freshmen don’t need a portfolio if they switch by the end of the third week of the first quarter, so I don’t know if I’m misunderstanding that or not.
Admission to the UCR Art Major requires electronic submission of a portfolio consisting of ten (10) images of your original work and/or three (3) clips of moving images or sound work. This requirement applies to incoming transfer students and current UCR students wishing to pursue an Art major ONLY (this does not apply to incoming Freshmen/current high school students). Prospective students new to UCR must first apply to UC Undergraduate Admissions. After initiating the process of applying to the Art major, applicants will be sent a link for online submission of this portfolio. All other current continuing UCR students may begin submission of their portfolio at any time.
Portfolios are reviewed periodically for admission to the Art Major; it is recommended you apply for the major 4-7 weeks in advance of the quarter you wish to be accepted.
Admission Portfolio Guidelines – (For Transfer and Current Student Applicants ONLY. New incoming Freshmen do not require a portfolio submission.)
Current UCR Students Applying for Change of Major-follow these STEPS to APPLY:

Step Two: On the Slideroom website you will need to create a username and password. Then you will need to enter the nine digits of your UCR Application or Student Identification Number. (SID#) and be sure to select one of the current UCR Non-major student options.
Step Three: You must electronically submit a portfolio consisting of recently made, original artwork consisting of ten (10) images of original work and/or three (3) clips of media art (such as moving images or sound pieces.) You will be required to provide media used, year the work was completed, and dimensions for each of your works that you submit. Titles are optional.
There is a non-refundable application fee of $10
I’m a bit confused, I read all of this on the Art Major requirements page but as an already accepted and admitted UCR student for Fall 2018, do I need to make a portfolio? Because if I don’t, I’m confused as to why I wasn’t able to change my major.
If you are admitted into UCR as an English major, then you would have to submit the portfolio according to the information since you were not directly admitted into the major.

Oh okay! Thank you!~
