Hi, just wondering if it's possible to transfer to UCR in one year for information systems major. I emailed a UC transfer counselor and they told me to wait until November to see if they will accept lower division applicants but I"m really impatient and scared if they don't accept any.

Also, I go to a CSU and plan on dropping after the first year to attend CC if it doesn't work. But, I was waitlisted to UCR last year but didn't get in b/c I chose an engineering major. Is it true they re-look at your high school record again when you reapply?

It’s very difficult to be admitted as a lower division transfer unless you have a great academic record and a high GPA, as well as all the other stuff they look for, like involvement on and off campus. You’re going to be considered after they’ve already considered all other, traditional transfer applicants, and depending on space availability, they might not even be able to offer you admission in the first place.

Keep in touch with your transfer counselor, and file your application in November for sure. They honestly don’t know at this point whether they’ll accept lower division transfers, because it all depends on space and what you can bring to the campus. Transfer applications are considered on a case-by-case basis, and lower division applications even more so.

I’m pretty sure they consider your high school record again, especially since you only have one year of college under your belt. I think that it’ll be less important than how you performed in college on the grander scale of things, but yes, it’ll be a contributing factor.
