Hi, I’m about to graduate high school. I hope to be a physician someday. My dream college was UCSD. I unfortunately did not get in. I got accepted into CSUSM, UCR & SDSU. I heard it’s better to choose a UC if I’m hoping to get into a medical school someday. But I was thinking, what if I choose SDSU, then hopefully transfer to UCSD. But that’s like rolling a dice, because what if I don’t get accepted again. Or the other option is just do the whole premed in SDSU. Or is it best to just go to UCR? Advice please. Thank you.
It’s harder to transfer from a 4 year to another 4 year than if you transfer from a community college. That being said, it’s not impossible. It would be safer to stick to one 4 year.
Picking a school depends on your preference. SDSU and UCR are pretty similar in terms of biological sciences. I would visit both if I were you and see which campus fits you better.
Biology is very well known and most popular major at UCR along with their newer medical school…first in 50 years in California. Bio-Med (Thomas Haider) accelerated program is extremely brutal! You can also take the normal pre-med route which would a little less stressful compared to the Thomas Haider accelerated (1 year quicker) program. Congrats on the UCR acceptance…I would definitely go there!
Thank you!
