UCR vs UW

I don’t know which school to go to…

I got into UCR with bioengineering BS + MS, and a $5,000 scholarship. I am also instate and and doing the pre-med track. However, the UCR environment is not really something I like, and the location is not that great either. It would also be slightly easier to get a better gpa, but I would be avoiding the challenge I would face in medical school.

I also have UW the largest problem there is that I got accepted pre-engineering which means that I have to reapply after my first year there, and the process is very competitive where there might be a chance I don’t get in for bioengineering. However, the environment is much more stimulating. It is colder, and the location is very beautiful. The cost is not really a problem, but my parents don’t want me to go there.

Higher cost and a significant chance of not getting into your major are big drawbacks of UW. As a premed, you want to save money for expensive medical school.

I would go for the direct admit at UCR. You will have a better chance of getting that high GPA needed for Medical school along with as @ucbalumnus stated a chance to save money to put towards your Medical school education.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the help!
