what are the top 3 UCs and the top 3 CSUs in california?

is it this?
UC's:
1. Berkeley
2. Los Angeles
3. San Diego

CSU's:
1. San Luis Obispo
2. San Diego
3. Long Beach

and how would you rank these CSUs over the low UC's such as santa cruz and riverside? I think slo and sdsu are better then ucr but what about long beach?

Realistically, you would get different results for different UC/CSU programs. These schools collectively offer hundreds of different degree programs. You shouldn't expect all of these programs to follow identical rankings.

For example, if you wanted to major in engineering or architecture, then you might very well choose Cal Poly SLO over most UC schools. But if you wanted to major in comparative literature, then you probably wouldn't.

University of California[ol][]UCB
[]UCLA
[]UCSD[/ol] California State University[ol][]Cal Poly SLO
[]SDSU
[]Cal Poly Pomona[/ol]

this topic just keeps coming back over and over again. as noted, the two systems have different missions. therefore, they are hard to compare across the board, and at best you only can make a rough guess based on things like selectivity and entrance data.

there seems to be no argument about the three tiers of the UCs with the same trio of schools always resting in the same places.

there does, however, seem to be some dispute about the CSU. so here's a take from somebody on the faculty side:

SLO hands down leader given vast quality of many programs and selectivity.

SDSU slightly ahead in second and making up some ground on SLO based upon broad array of joint doctoral programs, outstanding business, communications and other programs, and growing popularity and selectivity of this campus.

about a dead heat between Beach and Pomona. Beach has the most high school valedictorians of any CSU and has made huge strides in things like business and the humanities. But Pomona is a national leader in hotel/restaurant and is much stronger in those polytechnic things like engineering and architecture. so they're about a tie.

as has been noted many times prior one should choose a college based upon strength of a major, not on name recognition.

also, it should be noted that the awarding of doctoral degrees in education has been approved for selected campuses of the CSU such as San Jose and Beach with more coming on stream later.

having taught in both systems and seen things first hand, i'd place these four units above riverside and possibly merced. santa cruz is a bit stronger, perhaps close in quality to san diego state. i'd place SLO near the middle group of UCs, at least for undergraduate education.

CSU System:
1. Cal Poly SLO
2. SDSU
3. CSULB

-Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD are well above the rest of the UC's.
-Cal Poly Pomona would fall below SDSU and CSULB.
-Cal Poly SLO falls in line with the mid tier UC's such as irvine, santa barbara and davis.
-SDSU and CSULB fall in line with UC Riverside, possibly just below it.

riverside has better programs in a few areas than san diego state as well as long beach state and cal poly pomona, but i agree dude. they are behind all three when you add them all up though obviously it is difficult to prove it.
