UCs...Does it matter the major you put?

They say they dont look at the major you put on your application...then why do they ask for it?

would it be good or risky to put something that interests me (classics: greek) but dont have any background in (ex: clubs, etc)?

If I didnt put greek, I would put sociology, a widely chosen major...

btw- im not applying for engineering school or anything, and the particular UC's im wondering about are UCLA and UCB...

do u think they take a look at it and consider it when reviewing applications?

It depends on which one you're applying to. UCLA (UCB has a similar system, though I'm not familiar with it) doesn't care if you're applying to their school of letters and sciences, but they do care if you're applying to their engineering school.

As long as it's a major from letters and sciences, it shouldn't matter what major you put down. Do some research for UCB though.
