UC's

I have heard from peers that UC’s don’t accept D’s. I am currently a junior and have taken AP classes. I ended first semester fairly well with a B in my AP English class and A’s in my other classes, however, I am concerned about the D I recieved in my AP Calculus, I barely missed the C. Will I automatically be rejected because of the grade I recieved?

A D in a Math or Foreign language class is not an automatic rejection as long as you meet the minimum a-g courses requirements even with the lower grade. UC’s offer grade validation for Math and Foreign language classes.

If you receive a D/F in 1st semester but pass the 2nd semester with C or above, the class is validated.
If you take a higher level class and pass with a C or above, the higher level class validates the D/F in the lower level class.

How it will impact you if you do not repeat the class or semester:
Your D/F will be calculated into your UC GPA (10-11th grades only).
If it is an UC approved Honors/AP class, you will not receive the extra honors points in the UC GPA calculation

D/F’s will impact your chances at the Mid and Top tier UC’s, since you will be a less competitive applicant. Remember, UC’s are very competitive schools and when you have up to 100,000 applicants for some of the campuses along with applicants with outstanding grades, your chances are decreased.

Also note that any D’s or F’s in your Senior year could result in your admission being rescinded so make sure you take a comfortable course load and no Senioritis.

This is extremely helpful! Thank you!!
