UCSB Admission - Class of 2022

For anyone who is scared about their UCSB admission based off of their UCD decision:

I got waitlisted to UCD but got into UCSB. In recent years UCD has been trying to stop being a “backup school.” There is a trend where UCD waitlists top/middle students because they know they are probably going to get into other schools and turn down their Davis acceptance. With that being said, if you got waitlisted to Davis and just submit your waitlist statement you have a very high chance of getting in (everyone I know who goes there now got waitlisted but got in after). If SB is still your top school do not get discouraged just because you got waitlisted/rejected from Davis! If you get in SB is a wonderful school and I highly encourage you go here I love it!

BTW my stats were 4.07 UC GPA and 1920 SAT

Confirmed news!!! Those who got the reception got in.Hurray!

My S18 attended the UCSB Los Angeles Chancellor’s Reception and shared with me that Regent Scholarship recipients were given ribbons. I was not there; can someone who attended confirm this is true?

@DiegoDad1 They did ribbons or something similar last year for Regents.

Last year there were ribbons on their name tags.

Just got the UCSB email…decisions officially out on March 20th at 3 pm PT

Yes!

I thought it would be the 23rd, so that’s good news.

Are all admitted students invited to the Chancellor’s Reception? If not, what are the criteria for the invitation?

@caligirl1999 Last year my son got waitlisted at UC Davis just like you, and was so nervous about getting in to UC Santa Barbara, his dream school. But he got accepted there, and into the honors program. In physics. So don’t lose hope! Good luck to you.

ok on the email that UCSB sent applicants around 5:20 pm today, did anyone else’s email say in the bottom left corner “#futuregaucho”?? is it standard or should it mean something?

The chancellor’s reception was an invitation that the top applicants received in the end of February. It is invite only. Good luck to you!

Haha I love how people in these threads read into everything too far that schools sent out. The #futuregaucho is standard

momtwin: Thanks for the response. My D got the invite. I’m just wondering what is meant by “top applicants.” I thought it meant everyone that UCSB was planning to accept. However, I saw on another CC thread that “top applicants” is the top 15% of applicants. Does anyone know if that’s correct?

Is it more common to be waitlisted by UCD and accepted by UCSB or vice versa? I know nothing is for sure, but just guessing based on past trends what do you guys think?

My son’s friend got rejected by UCD, wait listed by UCSD and was accepted by UCSB last year.

I know he had high stats(both in GPA and the test score)and excellent ECs.

Too many factors to consider. Because the majority of majors are in the College of L&S at UCSB, some hard science majors (Bio, Chem, Physics) might be a little easier to get into at UCSB than UCD. Not in admissions, just my impression.
