****UCSB Admissions 2021****

Accepted to Undeclared Letters and Science! Stoked as I was rejected from UCLA, UCSD, waitlisted at UCD, cal poly, UCI, accepted at SDSU, UCSC, fullerton, and UCSB!

3.9 UC GPA
31 ACT
EC’s included founding a leadership club at my school
100+ community service hours
Tons of work experience (had roughly 6 jobs since freshman year, usually two at a time)
Essays have to be what got me in. Put everything into those, described a lot of what I got gone through and how I persevered. (support my family, live alone w/ mom mom, etc.)

Couldn’t be happier, as this was my #1. Congrats to all that got in and to those that were waitlisted: You can get off! My brother was waitlisted at Cal and UCSB, got into both. Good luck, and know that wherever you go, college will be amazing.

After reading through all of these acceptances (which I think I need to stop  ) I am surprised my daughter was waitlisted by UCSB. She is in her schools Scholars program (similar to IB), extremely active in school, volunteering and extracurriculars, is top 15% of her class, has taken 4 AP’s, 8 honors classes and rest of core classes are categorized as “accelerated”. Her UC gpa is a 4.22 and her ACT was a 30 (could have been her Achilles heal although I am seeing many 28 and 29’s posted here). Accepted early to SDSU for “academic excellence” and offered honors college and offered U of O’s largest out of state scholarship with Honors College as well. She applied under Sociology. Always interesting to see stats of those who have been accepted but it certainly blows my mind that she was not. Oh well, UCSB’s loss and Cal Poly’s (which was personally both my husband and my hope for her) gain. Once she saw she was waitlisted by SB she pretty much crossed it off her list.

@bcgirlsmom, congrats on D’s acceptance to SLO. No easy feat this year. My S17 is quite discouraged by the arms race of UC admissions. I think that the data will show that there was a big jump in the number of schools applied to per applicant this year. Logical, as in this environment it is natural to want a hedge against rejection. There is also some trophy hunting that goes on, sadly. The unintended consequence is that the schools have even less idea than before of who actually wants to come. So now an element of randomness or serendipity comes in–making yields and probability of acceptance even less predictable on both sides. And so on. Who knew? My twin D15s are in blissful denial right now. And I am pretty bummed.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted, UCSB is a rad school! If anyone has any questions about SB itself, reach out to me!

Does anyone know when the UCSB receptions are? Also, when will we receive our actual mail package acceptance?

@dogrunner1 whoops i wasn’t thinking straight! i didn’t mean to put UCB on the list – was making assumptions.

@etherealdreams hahaha, yes, I am making the same assumption

Has any international student received their acceptance package?

Does anyone know when the financial aid award letter/information will be posted to the UCSB portal?

@mangolover99 My DD had access to hers last night around 10pm. They surprised us by getting our net cost down to $13k (EFC of $11.5k- 2 in college). She may well be a Gaucho soon.

@voltthorn I haven’t received anything from UCSB.

Pre-Economics
I checked my unofficial financial aid letter and it says I am Blue and Gold eligible. How do I check how much that gives me. It only tells me what I’ll receive from Cal Grant, Pell Grant, UCSB Grant, and Gaucho Health Insurance Grant along with loans and work study.
