To everyone rejected/waitlisted at UCSB: I know a student who didn’t study in high school and went to a CC while working, became more responsible and actually did some studying. Got high enough grades (I think 3.5 at CC) and transferred to UCSB. It’s way easier to go to CC and then transfer that if you are willing to eat your pride, this may end up being a cheaper and easier path.
Also, my nephew went to a CC, got something like 3.4 gpa there and managed to transfer to UCLA at a non-competitive major. He told me his friends who had higher gpa all managed to transfer to UC Berkeley. Note this was several years ago, and he did tell me that now it’s harder to transfer to UCLA and UC Berkeley.
Seriously, if I were a high school student, I would play sports, just take courses I really liked without regards to getting into colleges, work part-time and save money and just go to CC and then transfer later. CA college system is made for this route.
Will they send out a paper acceptance/FA packet or is everything done only through the website? Is there an accepted students day/days? We visited this school when it was on break and quiet. Didn’t get a good sense of what the campus is like when students are there.
And that is the reason so many of the schools have open house next weekend. The students will be back from Spring Break and not bogged down by midterms or finals yet.
@thatguyO Congrats!! As another transfer student in the same major, I’m curious if you don’t mind me asking what your stats were? c: Currently, I’m still pending but I really do hope to get in.
@thatguyO Blue and gold states that you will not have to pay any fees for tuition and fees thru grants and scholarship. It says that you MAY qualify for grants on top of that but it is not specific. Tuition and fees cost $14409 according to the unofficial awards letter. You most likely will still have to take loans out for living and school expenses if the remainder of your grants/scholarships don’t cover the those expenses. I talked to someone in financial aid to get a better idea for my situation (also blue & gold) and they were very helpful. Probably talked on the phone for 20 mins. I also got admitted to pre-econ so maybe I’ll be seeing you in the summer/fall
@winonos
3.3 UC GPA
3.8~ Major GPA
Ended up dropping bunch of classes beginning of CC career (6 W’s) but retook classes I took and ended up getting mostly A’s and one B.
4.0 during Summer session. 3.61 During Fall session (Most recent semesters). Definitely showed an upward trend.
Also think my Essays truly highlighted stuff U.C’s would want to see!
I’m pretty sure I got accepted on Monday of this week!
@enpz45 I think most of my tuition is paid by Cal Grant A, but it says I was awarded Cal Grant B on my Cal Grant application. I think after work study, I only have to take out 7k in loans which isn’t too bad since. I might be going to UCSB this fall as well!
I’m having trouble deciding… so I got into UCI’s Business Administration program( the school sent me an email says that this year the UCI Merage School of Business had over 11,000 applicants for only 280 seats),
and UCSB’s Pre Econnomics&Accounting (got in as a top applicant, was invited to the Chancellor reception.)
Also got into Fordham LC (Global Finance and Business Economics), Penn State main(Finance), PITT (Finance), and UMass-Amherst (finance w $12k a year) Any advice? Thank you so much!
If you don’t mind me asking did you receive any grants from the uc school system, excluding cal grants and pell grant. I too am a pre-econ major going to UCSB in the summer but i only received a cal grant and i’m hoping to receive a grant from the school but idk if they will make an adjustments to my Unofficial award letter when i submit my SIR
