****UCSB Admissions 2021****

DS also received Regents Scholar letter. $6K award is tempting.

@wormholes Hi, just curious, where did you get the info that UCSB focuses more on community service/volunteering for their Regents? Talked to someone from the Regents staff two years ago, and they said it’s based purely on stats. So now, I’m confused…

UCSB weighs grades/tests scores 50% and essays/activities 50%. https://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/applying/freshman/selection That’s for general admission and I’m not sure that is the same criteria they use for Regents. It seems that the Regents recipients so far have test scores in the top 1% (I’ve only seen ACT of 33-36 and no 32 so far).

This excerpt is from the UCSB Regents Scholar page::::::

The Selection Process
The Regents Scholars selection committee conducts a comprehensive review of the freshman applicant pool to determine the student’s strength and breadth of academic preparation. Selection is based on a thorough review of the admissions application, including, but not limited to test scores and grades.

I would imagine that top students (academically/stats) would also have good leadership, community service/EC’s etc… listed as part of their application.

@windypoplars like @lkg4answers and @Gumbymom said, UCSB is really holistic. Obviously I don’t know anything for sure, but I don’t think it’s purely stats based. My friend and I both have pretty similar stats, and she got UCSB regents and I did not; however I got UCI CHP and she did not. She has a lot of community service though, which may be why she got SB. I really don’t know…just speculation haha

Wooo, got Regent’s Scholar Letter in the mail as well :slight_smile:

I got an email about financial aid on February 17th and it addressed me by name and was signed “sincerely, offices of admissions and financial aid & scholarships.” Did everyone get this email? I’m OOS so I’m not eligible for aid, I was just wondering if it was sent to everyone

@corgiluverxoxo did you get it today?

@cj02523 I received that email also on the 17th but I’m in state. I assume it goes out to all applicants because it says “while you wait to hear about your admission decision…”

@VenomBuds Yeah, I received it in the mail today. If they were supposed to be sent in one wave of letters, it could just be a matter of when the letter actually made it to my mailbox.

@corgiluverxoxo Oh ok. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow haha.

@corgiluverxoxo - Are you in state or out? Were you invited to the Chancellor reception?

@VenomBuds Good luck!

@gratefulmama I’m in state, and yes I was invited to the Chancellor Reception

@corgiluverxoxo - Thanks. I was sure they had all been received by now, so that is encouraging. Congratulations!

@gratefulmama Thank you!

If you are not invited to the Chancellor Reception, does that mean you are not admitted?

@Joy2009 no you could still get in

@Wormholes - Thank you. SB is my daughter’s 1st choice. She got CHP from Irvine but she hopes and prays to get into SB.

Anyone know if she has a chance?
GPA (10-12): 4.56
SAT: 1380/1600
Hospital Volunteer for 2 years
Volleyball team for 3 years

@Joy2009 Of course — though the SAT might be a tad low, the GPA is great. She definitely has a chance. It all comes down to essays + ECs
