UCSB and UCSD

Hello guys. I get accepted to UCSB and UCSD
My major is biochemistry! Which one you recommended ?
Can any one give me some pros and cons of each so I can make my decision!
Thank you !
Oh , and UCSB offer me a Promise Scholar

UCSD for sure. Stronger program

UCSB, if they have designated a program for you.

Agree with aunt bea – the Promise Scholar program looks awesome and you don’t mention receiving any comparable special opportunity from UCSD.

Yes! UCSD didn’t offer me any thing
However, I hear UCSB is like a party school.
And don’t have much industries surrounded!

There is a party population at UCSB, but you don’t have to join it. As a Promise Scholar you should be high priority for getting a spot in a research lab on campus plus your tuition is paid, so having industry jobs close by should not be a deal killer.

It’s a UC, so it doesn’t matter if there are no industrial companies on the beach in Santa Barbara.
It’s a party school if you partake. There are serious students there as well. One of them is my neighbor and she loves being challenged by the coursework.
Accept the Promise Scholar program and don’t look back.

UCSB has many very serious scholars. And an excellent science program. Many students don’t even have time to party. I encourage you to go visit.

FWIW I think UCSB is a clear best choice.

Is any know about the Promise Scholar !
Based on the estimate I still have to pay 6 thousand from my pocket ? It is not full ride ?

Definitely UCSB because of being a Promise Scholar looks like it comes with lots of benefits and support.

Anecdotally, I know as many serious students at UCSB and UCSD. They party the same amount if they choose to. Don’t let that deter you.

Thank you for helping!
I just wonder about my Net cost? What about the 6 thousand dollar from the net cost!
Because UCSD is my first choice and SB is my second
6 thousand and 10 thousand
It only make a little different!

If the promise scholar give me full I definitely go there but now I very confused about my net cost.

Please call the schools to understand your net costs – We are not the school financial aid officers.

Oh.! I called the financial aid! The financial aid office said I still have to pay 6000 from my pocket! Which 4000 away from UCSD so I just cannot make the decision due to that!

It sounds like you really do not like SB. You didn’t tell us your grants got SD down to 10,000 per year. Tha’s a good price, too. Does that 10,000 out of pocket before or after you include any loans or work-study jobs in the price?

And I personally like UCSD a bit more than UCSB. But I don’t want to miss the opportunity of the Promise Scholar, and don’t know whether or not it really help me that much.

Going with the information you’ve now provided I think that you should go with UCSD since you like it more and the program is stronger

The 10000 Is not included my loan and work study

Just was listening to a prominent national radio talk show. They are discussing the cosmos and mathematics related to studying the universe etc. had on one of the foremost scholars in the discipline to discuss it. He was a UCSD professor. Simply brilliant. FWIW. Seems like they have a lot going on…,

So it really costs 10000 plus the amount you’re borrowing plus the hours you have to work.
Add those to get your true bottom line, and do the same for UCSB.
