Hello, I have just gotten rejected from UCSB and wanted to appeal. I have had a lot of personal issues in high school (long story short, at one point my mom almost overdosed), and I didn't metion some achievments and extra curriculars like the national football foundation and college hall of fame scholar athlete award and forming a relay for life team for my mom. I really want to go to UCSB and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I have a GPA of about 3.75 and an ACT of 26. I would really like some tips and help on how should I appeal and what I need. ANYBODY THAT HAS BEEN ACCEPTED BY APPEAL PLEASE HELP.

*on a side note when I sent in ACT i sent two because one of them had the plus writing and the other didn't. is that a problem?

Oh I ment a Gpa of more like 3.8 and I don’t think I metioned I lettered in three varsity sports (football, track, lacrosse)

I think you should definitely appeal! There’s nothing wrong with appealing.

I think you really should write how traumatic your experience was and expand on that. (i.e. how that affected your school work, motivation, future plans, family issues, etc)
I got in with a 3.8 and a 2090 SAT. But to be honest, I think the UC’s are looking at the essays a lot more seriously than just statistics. So that’ll help you out.

You should also mention your awards since they do play a lot of role. It shows colleges that you actually took leadership and all that ( Plus UCSB has a lax team)

good luck!

Yeah, also would it be good to mention something along the lines of that Im open to other majors (less competitive ones.)

Yeah, on my essay I wrote about two sentences that mentioned about my personal issue, but I didn’t really expand on it. My mom at about the beginning of high school got into cocaine, and I had to deal with this all throughout high school (she almost over dose once), fricken sucked. In my essay I mentioned like two sentences but mainly talked about how she had cancer. I really hope this appeal works (what do you think are chances of it working?)

Best of luck to you. If it doesn’t work out and you still want to go to UCSB, see my post about the backdoor way into UCSB (it should be on page 2 or 3) to see if that’s something you might want to do.

Sorry to bump this, but what’s the deadline for sending an appeal?

Usually it’s April 15th. Some colleges don’t mind if it’s after but they don’t guarantee it’ll be evaluated by 5/1. So turn it in ASAP !
