I was recently rejected to UCSB and was wondering if an appeal is worth it because UCSB was a school I really wanted to go to. I had a 4.35 GPA and had 1540 SAT score, two sports year round, and little Community service hours because of sports and transportation(I would have done more hours if I could). I have been accepted to UCSD and CSULB and two others(computer science major) …is an appeal an ideal option for me, I wonder what it was I lacked that made me get rejected. I need some feedback…Please and thank you.
The 1540 SAT score was very likely the reason. Appeals generally only work if you have new information not on your application. UCSD is a fantastic choice.
Thanks.Ok that figures I just read scores of students who were accepted and they had SAT sores of 2000 and above.I just don’t know if paying $6000 in loans every year for UCSD would be worth it.I’m still waiting on my other financial packages.
it honestly won’t hurt to try
UCSD is great school especially for your major.
I submitted an appeal and I’m also on the wait list… it says that they received my appeal and the decision is pending. I hope we find out soon!
@julesk71 what was your major, gpa and sat?
english, 4.2, 1890
@julesk71 did u type or write your appeal?
i typed it. did you send one in too?
@julesk71 yes i was denied. I typed mine and wrote it. What you write about? Idk the uc system… I go to a really low income school and i have plenty of friends that took only 5AP’s that got into uci and ucsb with like 1400/2400 sat’s! My friend had 1900 sat and got in harvard
does anyone know when we will hear about the appeal?
@jerseycali I just heard back today.
@LowkeySalty what’d you hear back? My decision is still pending.
@GoodVibesCali I got in. I mailed in my appeal on the 15th too, so I was surprised to hear back so soon.
@LowkeySalty congrats!!! Were you originally denied or wait listed?
@GoodVibesCali Thank you! Denied initially but I got into Chem Engineering on appeal, not sure how but I’m not complaining lol
@LowkeySalty What type of things did you put in your letter? Was there something significant missing from your original app or did you just say how you thought you would belong etc.?
@LowkeySalty yeah how in the world did you get in? and before may1st that too?? i’m just sitting here patiently waiting to get in off the waitlist haha
@JJammerz @yasv11 Nothing significant missing or misreported etc. I basically just expressed my desire to switch majors (I applied to the College of Engineering initially so that had an impact on my initial decision), explaining why the new major would be better suited for me, how UCSB would allow me to accomplish my goals, and how I could contribute to the positive atmosphere at UCSB. I also included a paragraph noting my fall grades as a senior taking six AP’s.
I feel like my stats were a huge reason for my acceptance. They’re pretty high relative to UCSB’s averages. I thought UCSB was gonna be a safety school, but obviously not lol. They also let me keep the major I originally applied for, which I thought was really funny considering I spent 3/4 of my appeal letter explaining why I should be considered for a different one lmao
I wish you guys the best of luck getting in
