UCSB Dorms

I decided i am going to attend UCSB with biology as my major and i am going to take pre med courses. I was wondering which freshman dorms would be the best for me. Ideally i want an environment where i can have a great social life, but also be able to study in peace when i need to. And the closer to the beach the better. Thanks for any advice!

I’m choosing Santa Catalina (FT) I hear its very social and it’s suite style so you have a private bathroom. Girls and guys are across from e/o , and San Cat has little private nooks for studying. Any dorm will be close to the beach. San cat is off campus though so you have to bike/take the bus everyday but I hear its only a 10min ride and it keeps you fit!

Are you an honors student? I know that a couple UCSB dorms have certain scholar floors that make for a separation between studying and partying, but the students are still laid back and social. I’m choosing San Nicolas and Anacapa as my first choices because I hear they’re social, all freshman, and have the scholar floor option. They’re also right on campus. I bet you can sign up for a scholar floor even if you aren’t an honor student though.

My brother attends UCSB and lives in Santa Catalina and he has had the total opposite experience. He said the rooms are way too small and he shares a bathroom with 5 others. They have separate rooms (3+2) but the bathroom has an entrance from two sides (their respective rooms). He did say that it is indeed very social but some downsides. Some people are drunk/noisy. Take this all with a grain of salt. Everyone has different experiences/rooms etc. He’s not a very social person so he may view it more negatively than someone who is extremely social.

HEY!!! Im going to be a bio major at ucsb and hope to go to med school as well! I had the same question.
