UCSB Extension School for Business??

I am currently in my first semester at a community college. I plan to transfer after two years to pursue a business degree and would prefer to do accounting. I hadn’t considered UCSB because when I had checked before they had no business majors. I just ran across their extension school and saw that they have a business program with accounting. I am just wondering what the difference between the extension school and the regular school is. Is it still on the main campus? Someone told me that you don’t get a degree they just give you a certificate? What else should I know? Thank you if you can help.

As far as I know, extension just means you take classes at UCSB, but are not technically a full student, i.e. everyone gets to pick classes before you and you get the scraps. But you can do a bit more research on that via google, I’m pretty sure they might just have some business related classes on accounting, which are offered for regular students as well. That said we indeed do not have business majors, so it might be better to go to a different school that does.

The Extension program is not for you.

In other words they are meant for someone with a college degree that wants to take some classes out of interest or to earn a certificate and enter a new career field.

If you want to pursue accounting then the Economics and Accounting major is what you should look into. Furthermore as a CC student (assuming you are in Calif) you can use the TAG program to get guaranteed admission. See https://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/applying/transfer/tag
