UCSB Fall Admissions 2011

we will find out tomorrow.

Lol choroidal, sour grapes much?

Jesuis, I’m truly happy for you. I saw your lurking around SD’s forum a lot and I secretly wanted you to get in (creepy, i know, considering i dont know you), but still! good job!

it may be true that the UC schools are recruiting more out of state students, but those students are still very qualified, its not like they are accepting people who are stupid

i am an OOS student, with 2160 SAT/32 ACT, high income with my father making 140k a year, but a ~3.6 UC unweighted gpa, and so far i was rejected from UCLA and waitlisted at SD. i thought that the combination of being OOS and high income would make me a prime candidate for acceptance, but it really wasnt

there were 3 kids that i know of from my school who were accepted to UCLA. they had very high stats though, all three had >33 ACT’s, one is also the valedictorian of my school and the two others are ranked very highly as well, like in the top 1%, they also had the highest possible UC capped weighted GPA’s and 4.0 unweighted gpa’s

I am happy that your friends got in to the college they like. BUT, I still think California kids need to be the first priority here because of the taxes we pay for the schools. Just my opinion. I don’t mean any harm. I just know that this year the UCs recruited way more out of state due to budget cuts. They make more money on you than us.

yeah and that happens to OOS aswell, i got into Uni of Maryland for spring, im a very qualified candidate for fall and saw kids with similar stats from NJ and other places get in over me.
I got the invitation for top applicants for UCSB so hopefully i get in.
1870 SAT
3.9 W GPA
good ec’s
really good rec’s

I’m a little bitter, as you can probably tell, because I’ve got 4.3 and ACT 31/SAT 2100, and I didn’t get that letter. I’ve got great ECs and recs…=[

GPA 3.6 weighted
SAT 1940
Subject test, chinese 800, chem 690, mathII 690
8 AP, 5 of them got 3 or higher and 3 still taking it this year
good community hour and club vp

You guys think i can make it? GPA really low…

oh no i didnt mean to sound angry or anything. im actually pretty jealous because none of those kids is going to attend UCLA, either because they did not get financial aid or they got accepted to better universities, lol. i wish i could turn down UCLA haha

I got in, and found out via the chancellor’s reception as well!
UCSB is one of my top choices & I’m considering the Freshman Summer Start Program

@redskins
If you got the invitation to the chancellor thing then you’re accepted. I got one a few weeks ago and went to the reception and the first thing they told us was that we were excepted so don’t worry you’re in!

LOL @H4iley. Accepted not excepted… sigh…

Does anyone know if you got a 5 in Calculus AB and BC, are you allowed to enroll in Math 3A and 3B?

are you trying to double dip and take an easy class ???
since you have passed the AP test, that means you already know the material …

so nervoussssssssss please start posting as soon as you find out. this year decisions are very scary!!!

I also got accepted to University of Maryland. Are you planning on attending? I am going out next week to look at the school

I’m an OOS applicant freaking outt… I have to wait til 7 here because I’m on East Coast time. How slow this day is going by…

@scaremom, the admission site is down for maintenance and will be up at 4 …
approximately 6 more hours of waiting …

@ curvedestroyer

Curious as to why you think your father’s “high” income matters to the admissions department as they evaluate you as an OOS candidate. I don’t see why that would make you preferable to an in state candidate with similar stats. Are you thinking that his high income is evidence that he can afford your higher OOS tuition?

emr414, have a great dinner, we don’t want you to lose your appetite, just in case …
I am just kidding, I am confident that you are in …

did you apply to any of the colleges in your state ???

The theory is “high” income means no need based aid needed for the applicant which has zero bearing what so ever as schools make acceptance decisions based on the students app. before fafsa and daddy’s income is looked at.
