June 1st is the deadline to submit the SIR and Im having trouble about where to go, UCSD or UCSB. At UCSB I plan on majoring in psychobiology and at UCSD, pharmacological chemistry, hoping to get into pharmacy school. I know SD is the better school for my major, but it also seems as if SD is a boring place to live the next two years, and highly competitive with academics. It would be fun to live at SB, but would it help me with pharmacy school? Thanks for your opinions and input.

I don't have the source behind it but I was told that SB has a great transfer rate to grad schools. UCSD does suck for a lot of people, I personally don't know anyone who exceptionally likes the place. But, I'm sure someone does. I dont usually pick a school on rankings and etc. so if you do then UCSD is the place. If I were you I'd go to UCSB. I got into UCLA so I just decided to go there but UCSB was actually my #1 choice. In the end its up to you, someone on here is going to sway you to either school, I wouldn't want to go to a school like UCSD personally.

UCSD, being a higher ranked school, is better for getting into grad schools.

In my opinion, the biggest thing UCSB has going against it is the "party school" image it cultivated during the 90's. However, it has been gradually improving its reputation in the last few years In overall global rankings ,if they mean anything to you, it is actually ranked pretty high (UCB and UCLA are the only schools in the system that consistently outrank it ... UCSD and UCSB seem to switch places for third depending on the year and methodology).

Outside of ranking, UCSB gives any UC a run for its money in terms of culture and location. While a few of the UC campuses enjoy relative proximity to the ocean, UCSB is the only campus that--to my knowledge--can provide you with the experience of walking from a residence hall or quad into a lagoon. Also, it enjoys close proximity to SoCal wine country (for instance, most of the locations in the film Sideways aren't too far from UCSB's genreal area) and you have the surfing scene and Isla Vista to explore. Santa barbara definitely has some selling points.

that lagoon is gross... its so f'ing dirty, its like the aquatic equivalent to People's Park.

Can you link general rankings (not just ranking graduate depts) that actually put UCSB above UCSD, Eschatos?

Ranked #2 for greatest party school by Playboy. Or so I've heard. I'm not sure if this is for undergraduate or graduate, and also whether this was only for universities offering Phd or not.

UCSB also offers a Pharmacology major, though I don't think either Pharmacology nor Pharmacological Chemistry are "Pharmacy" majors, they're more about drug design and development.
