UCSB Transfer for Fall 2010. Chance me please!

I know it's a bit early, but I'd like to know what you guys think of my chances for acceptance into UCSB in Fall 2010 as a Business Econ (Accounting) major. UCSB is my dream school. I've been up there many times and I love the town and vibe.

What do you think guys? Do you think I have a shot if I apply for Fall 2010?

Anyone? Please? =]

You should be more than fine. Not sure if your major is very difficult for UCSB, but I doubt it is. I had a friend get into UCSB with a 3.1 and no ECs. A 3.6 should be more than enough.

You’re fine.

you should be fine with your 3.6 gpa, IGETC, and pre-reqs done.

from what i understand UCSB’s bus econ major is fairly impacted, but my friend got in with a 3.2 and i’m not 100% she had all the pre-reqs completed. i believe having a 4.0 in the major pre-reqs (mico, macro, stats, and calc) will help you get admitted into the major. when you’re admitted to UCSB you’re admitted as pre-bus econ first.

Not sure why no one has asked, but are you doing TAG?

[UCSB Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/prospective/LSTAGCriteria.asp)

Assuming you get the lower division classes done (for Business Econ specifically) and meet the other requirements with a 3.0 GPA you’re guaranteed admission.

You chances of getting in are 99.9%. If you want to make it 100% sign a TAG agreement if you can.

How exactly does TAG work? Is it a separate form I turn into UCSB or am I guaranteed admission into UCSB by just completing IGETC and 4 major pre-reqs (Micro, Macro, Stats, Business Calculus)?

It looks like they changed it since my days of applying, as it says now you don’t have to submit a separate form:

[UCSB Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/prospective/TAGFAQ.asp)

Here’s the general page by the way:

[UCSB Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/prospective/TAGLetter.asp)

It doesn’t look like you even need to complete IGETC anymore, though it’s probably recommended so you can waive all your GEs once you transfer. Also, on the “detailed requirements” page, it says you need a 2.75 GPA in those four lower division courses required.

Assuming you meet all those conditions, your chances are 100%.

Great! Thanks! I’m feeling really good about my chances. My brother graduated from USC and he keeps bringing up the possibility of applying to USC for Accounting (Marshall) or Economics (LAS). I don’t think my GPA is high enough though. I mean I have the major requirements done for Marshall without trying. And looking at the articulation agreements I have their GE’s done too.

Do I have a fighting chance of getting into USC as well or should I bump my GPA up a few whole points?

I had a friend get in with a 2.8 when he applied…then it lowered to a 2.65 and he sill got accepted… nothing wrong with UCSB but you should consider applying to USC, UCLA, or something ranked a bit higher, your other info should be able to get you into USC pretty easily

Other info:
-Ethnicity: Hispanic (not sure if that matters)*
-First generation college student*
-Parents immigrated from Mexico
-Brother graduated from USC Film school*****

Does USC really place that much emphasis on ethnicity and on alumni relation?

I’m just a bit worried about USC because I did very poorly during my first couple of semesters of community college but I definitely picked myself up and did quite well afterward.

Although a 3.6 is a tad low for Marshall, you are definitely in the ballpark! If you can get in the 3.7+ range you have a GREAT shot. A 3.8 or higher GPA with all pre-reqs done would pretty much seal the deal as well.

Based on the hard stats, USC is slight reach. But, if you improve that GPA just a bit more, I think you will definitely get in. However, as mentioned earlier, you have a lot of soft factors which will definitely help as well.

Consider UCLA and Berkeley as well.

Sweet! I guess I’ll apply to USC as well then!

I’ll take a look at UCB and UCLA as well. I’ve read posts on UCLA admission on here and it doesn’t look pretty. So many well qualified applicants get rejected! =[

The most important thing USC looks for is if your check bounces.

Lol funny. My brother was able to find very good work as a reality tv editor right after USC and he paid off his student loans (nearly 80,000!) in about 3 years.

-Ethnicity: Hispanic (not sure if that matters)
-First generation college student
-Parents immigrated from Mexico

If you’re Hispanic, African American or Native American, you have a HUGE advantage in admissions process for undergrad, graduate schools.

Is that only valid for private schools like USC though?

I don’t know if the UC schools really care what ethnic group you belong to.
