UCSB v NYU v UC Davis

Hey everyone!

So I applied to all three of these schools and got in, but my top is definitely NYU. My major is International Relations and NYU is the perfect school for that, but it's on the other side of the country (California native). However, I've visited and I absolutely love the city and its location. I just hope I don't get homesick with the weather changes and lifestyle changes.
However, my dad really wants me to go to a UC because it's cheaper and closer to home. He believes that I can go to NYU for grad school.
He's afraid that graduating NYU i won't have a job, and we will have used all of our money that I wouldn't be able to attend Grad School and I won't have a job. However, if I graduate a UC and I still don't have a job, that would be okay because I would still have money to go to grad school. What do I do...I'm also afraid of the budget cuts to the UC's and the fact that all of my classes will be large lecture halls and I won't do well.

How much is the difference in net cost after non-loan financial aid?

precisely 0…only have loans

I had the exact same scenario (except with different schools). I don’t know which option is the right one to take, but I’m going to the cheaper school in the fall.

Note - You will still have lots of large classes at NYU.

You will save about $20,000 if not more, each year by choosing a CA public university. Your dad is absolutely correct. Save the money for grad school. In your field of study, you will have to pay for grad school yourself.
