UCSB vs. UC Davis Transfer?

I am currently a student at UCSB and have been admitted to the Human Development program at UCD. Davis was my first choice when applying to college in high school, but after getting denied I ended up at UCSB studying sociology. Now that I have been admitted as a transfer student, I don’t know if I should go or not… Davis was/is my dream school, but I’ve made so many connections and friendships at UCSB so far. I also have some obligations at UCSB this fall that I’ve committed to. Would it be worth dropping everything to take a chance and start again somewhere I’ve always wanted to go?

Here are my pros/cons so far:

Pros of attending Davis:
-my dream school (this is where I see myself going)
-not as overwhelming party scene (good for me)
-more interested in human development (I can always change majors, too)
-closer to home (1.5 hour drive vs. 5 hour drive)

Cons of attending Davis:
-starting all over and making new friends
-fear of struggling to integrate into Davis culture and find leadership opportunities

Pros of staying at UCSB:
-jobs/volunteer opportunities lined up for next year
-Sociology (my current major) ranked #1 at UCSB? I also really like sociology
-I have friends and I know people
-beautiful scenery (beach is right next door)

Cons of staying at UCSB:
-not my dream school
-not a big fan of the party scene or Isla Vista
-far away from home

I don’t really know what to do at this point… I’m leaning 60/40 towards Davis, but that could change. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It’s really your decision. The only thing I would take out of the mix is dream school. You never know if your “dream” will pan out after you get there.

I think you should consider staying. I looked at your lists. I focused on your pro UCSB list and it appeared to far out weigh the pro Davis list. The cons as written appear to be minor for UCSB, but only you not what is really going on but if there is not more to it than what you wrote, I don’t see why you would want to transfer. I agree with lindyk8 regarding the dream aspect. I don’t think that should be part of the equation. Good Luck!
