UCSB WAITLIST (CLASS OF 2022)

According to an April 26, 2018 LA Times article, the UC Regents delayed a vote on tuition increase to negotiate for more state funding. This could be bad news for waitlisted students because the exact same thing happened in May 2015 and the UC system held the waitlisted students hostage during the budget negotiation (this was confirmed during the counselor conference later that year); students were left in limbo until late into the summer (August in some cases). Students who are waitlisted or appealing should expect longer wait than usual (some UCs already said they may not notify waitlisted students until July).

I don’t think the tuition problem is going to have an effect on waitlist students. UC Santa Cruz has already notified students off waitlists so I don’'t really think it’s an issue because it would apply to them too. Although Cal Poly is a CSU they have already notified students off waitlists too. Hopefully they come out next week. Earlier in the thread people called and they said they would notify soon and by Mid-May as well.

For the policy that seniors must get a C- or better in every class and a 3.0 weighted, do they calculate it like the UC gpa in which every AP class gets an extra gpa boost? My school gives a C in any AP class a 2.0 not a 3.0. Would UCSB calculate it as a 3.0?

Did anyone get that email from UCSB to learn more about the school?

@whathaveidone5: The weighted 3.0 GPA takes into account weighted AP’s so a C in an AP class will be a C but gets the .1 bump for the overall GPA calculation. So Overall you need to maintain a 3.0 weighted, not a 3.0 for every course or grade but no D’s or F’s.

@Aflaxela I didnt… when did u get it and what did it say?

Can someone call today? Can’t take this uncertainty anymore, any info would be amazing

@WinstonZayne called earlier. still are receiving last minute SIRs, but also are receiving cancellations. she mentioned they’re having a meeting this week and should know more about space availablity - hopefully - this week.

also did anyone see the news today about the strikes happening on the uc campuses? do you think this/the financial situation is relevant to waitlist admissions?

Does anyone notice anything different about their portals? Some berkely waitlisted people said little things like their faq link and adresses were changing.

I noticed when I hit the Tranacript button it now shows my high school and says Spring Transcripts not received (my Fall ones were sent in with my appeal) - most probably just updated what they have now. Really didn’t think too much about it. It also says no further transcripts are needed unless admitted. But this is all new for sure from the last week.

UCB first wave of waitlist acceptances just came out, so i don’t think tuition is holding anyone back.

Mine still says pending. Good luck everyone. Seriously wishing g you all the best.

My friend just got in from the waitlist at Berkeley and he’s gonna cancel his UCSB SIR, lowkey happy about it and I hope UCSB will release a wave this week. Was anyone waitlisted from comp sci or engineering?

@Copywroted literally same, all the kids I know who got off the Berkeley waitlist had committed to sb and I’m more than happy to cheer them on.

Same here haha, for the SB commits who were admitted to UCB, it’s a win win for both parties  With UCB releasing waitlist I believe UCSB should be expected this week.

@marinstudent sweet, thank you!

anyone think theres a chance it comes out today?

@socalgal5 it might… I’m kinda down for it to come out later so the Berkeley people have time to cancel and more spots open up

they will most likely do more than one wave just like last year
