UCSB WAITLIST (CLASS OF 2022)

It seems like the information they give totally depends on the person who answers the phone, some people seem to know while others seem clueless. I believe if we continue calling we are bound to get some information. If the trends of previous years continue we should have the first wave by of acceptances by the end of the week. Just seeing off previous threads I also think it’s safe to say that the last wave of acceptance usually comes around the 20th of May but I could be completely wrong.

@WinstonZayne I expect that some of us will hear back by the end of the week because that is just usually the trend

What are all of you planning to do for housing, if we find out after May 8th (the housing deadline) what do we do then? I called the housing office and the person i talked to said they didn’t know how waitlisted students are taken care of.

The FAQ mentions that there is guaranteed housing for waitlisted students if they meet all deadlines and send in the SIR

I talked to someone and they said mid may to june is when they will come out. That seems really late though.

According to an April 26, 2018 LA Times article, the UC Regents delayed a vote on tuition increase to negotiate for more state funding. This could be bad news for waitlisted students because the exact same thing happened in May 2015 and the UC system held the waitlisted students hostage during the budget negotiation (this was confirmed during the counselor conference later that year); students were left in limbo until late into the summer (August in some cases). Students who are waitlisted or appealing should expect longer wait than usual (some UCs already said they may not notify waitlisted students until July).

Just got off the phone with someone from admissions and they said that there are currently ~4,000 people on the waitlist and there should be an update sent out to waitlisted students soon.

@sarwhal did they say how soon? i called and they said there were about 4000 on the waitlist but that we’d probably hear around mid may

@marinstudent i’m pretty sure she said something within the next few days.

@marinstudent they are still getting SIR’s that were mailed in, and they have to figure stuff out before they update us

If someone could call admissions today and see if they are accepting anyone off of the waitlist today, that would be amazing! I’m stuck at school or I’d call myself!

Anyone hear anything today?

Nothing on my side.

Nothing :frowning:

okay this is actually the worst feeling ever, we’re all stressed out enough as it is, why can’t they give us a break?!

Let’s hope for next week!

They probably wouldn’t notify during the weekend right?

@dood523 The office of admissions isn’t open during the weekend.

As far as I can see there is a budget issue for the entire UC system, and all the UCs are holding up waitlist decisions until it is resolved. I could be wrong, but I think it is in the hands of governor Brown. He has threatened to withhold a substantial amount of funding, and without that funding, UCs are unlikely to admit anyone off the waitlists. If anyone has any political pull, now is the time to use it.

@kn0wledge my understanding is that the issue was a debate over whether or not they were able to raise the tuition for students, and they did end up raising it, but something is happening with state funding? correct me anyone if im wrong. i don’t understand how it could still be a budget issue if they’re making more money next year because of the increased tuition, and why waitlisted applicants would be delayed or denied admission. anyone have any thoughts ??
