Last year I was admitted to UCSC but the acceptance was rescinded after I got NC in a philosophy course. I'm a math major with ~65 units. IGETC is done.

There were 2 pre req classes I hadn't taken so I went for a 4th year at Cabrillo, the community college in Santa Cruz, and I'm finishing them this semester. My GPA has gone up slightly, it's around 2.8 now.

My rejection was posted this morning. After talking to admissions at UCSC, it sounds like any GPA below 3.0 wasn't accepted. This year was more competitive than last.

Is it enough to say (in more words) "Hey, I got in last year and I've improved since then. Can you take a second look at my app?" or do I need something stronger to stand on if I want to change someone's mind?

Not being particularly close with any professors, I can only expect a letter of rec (due friday) from my boss...I work as a stock boy.

I have four years of 'trails and tribulations' to pull from. Freshman year in a makeshift dorm where out of 14 students, 10 dropped out and the 4 of us who stayed in college have taken at least an extra year before transferring. Diagnosed with ADD, finding (over multiple 1-2 month, semester ruining periods) that all of my life-long habits for self medicating (caffeine, sugar, tobacco) conflict with the prescribed medication which proved to be eye openingly helpful. Trying to start structuring my life in general. ...the importance of the college application process and working toward an attractive application was something I didn't comprehend until a year and a half ago.

To me, none of those stories seem very compelling...and some of it was briefly discussed on my application.

Can anyone with experience let me know which direction I should take my appeal in? Should I accept my fate at state?

Thank you for the help, and congratulations to everyone who was admitted!
