I'm pretty confused as to which major to choose for premed; I'm currently enrolled as a Proposed Biochemistry & Molecular Biology major.

Should I switch to a different one or stay with this one?

Either of those are fine, I believe. I know someone who is doing Bioengineering as their pre-med major. Anything under bio is fine as far as I know.

If you particularly like that major you can stick with it, but most premed students major in Health Sciences because the upper division courses are a bit more geared towards the med route. Majoring in biochem is still fine though.

If you are an entering hs student, you don’t really have to stress about your particular major right now. You declare your official major around your 2nd year. That should give you enough time to talk with advisors at the Health Science or Biochem department to see what their opinion is.

You can major in anything you want (underwater basketweaving, for example) and as long as you take the pre-med classes, you are pre med. A year of gen chem, a year of organic chem, a year of bio, biochem, a year of physics, math, and a year of English. That’s all you need for pre med. All the bio classes under the MCD department fulfill those requirements, except for the year of English, you’ll have to take that on top of your major.

If you like biochem I’d suggest sticking with that major.

I knew a girl who majored in English Lit and Creative Writing and was still premed because she took the science classes.
