What do you think caused the enormous decrease in rank for UCSC?

(it dropped 17 places from 2008-2009; Rank 79 to 96 Under UC Riverside[rank 89])

US News has a strange system.

For one, UCR received one point higher than UCSC last year (UCR = 41, UCSC = 40). Because UCSC was tied with like 5-6 other schools, it appeared UCSC went down “by 17 spaces,” when really, it didn’t go down that much. 1 point was the difference between 10 schools (in the national public Universities).

Why did UCSC go down in rankings? Who knows. Even though USNEWS screwed UCSC this year, people still put it above UCR because all of UCSC’s stats such as acceptance percentage, average incoming freshmen gpa, sat scores, etc are higher in comparison. UCSC’s acceptance rate shot down this year, so we might see UCSC ranked a little bit higher.

people who get rescinded get sent to UCR from my school…

this is why you don’t believe the news rankings all the time for point by point :)

USNEWS also rates Reed College as the #52 liberal arts college in America which is completely false as it is at least in the top 15 if not 10.

US News and World Report just hate liberal colleges

One-size-fits-none rankings are absurd nonsense. Pay attention to features and fit according to your your interests.

If this forum had “power levels” I’d give you one, vossron. :)

I have seen no drop. I have been at UCSC for the past 2 years and have only seen a gain. I do believe the sources are incorrect. In actuality, this school has seen tremendous improvement in the past years. McHenry library is soon to re-open and a new building is just about built. UCSC is on the rise. The drop is rank that you are speaking of, is a figure of your imagination.

Ranks are stupid, and worthless.
